CO – Ethics Class and Exam

Since the CO Board of Accountancy website isn’t very helpful, I thought I’d ask for help here. I have passed 3 sections, and am waiting on the score for the 4th (fingers crossed). I have met the experience/education qualifications to be licensed, and would like to submit my final application as soon as I receive my 4th score. I have two questions for anyone who can help:

    1. Can I take the ethics class/exam while my last score is pending (i.e., or do I need to wait until I have all four passing scores)?
    2.  Once a completed application is submitted, about how long does it take to receive your license?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Yes, you can take the ethics exam before you pass all your exams. That is what I did, I am in CA, but I remember reading in this website someone saying that you can take them before you pass.

    2. I believe is close to 2 months. In California, the handbook says “10 to 12 weeks after the application is complete”. I haven't applied yet because I will start working in July and I only have my internship experience as of now, so I can only tell you what I read.

Good luck on your 4th exam!n

todd3 – Each state is different on the rules. You really need to look at the state board website or call them. I doubt taking the ethics exam while you are waiting is a big deal but the time it takes to get your license is anyone's guess. Really need some input from some colorado CPA's or candidates. As far as how long it takes to get your license, again it depends on your state. The guy from CA say “10-12 weeks after the application is complete”. I am from IN and I received my license in exactly 11 days after I put my application in the mail. You just don't know. Good Luck on your 4th exam, the end is in sight.n

Thanks Trojan.CPA and Lee_IN for your insights, and congrats to both of you on finishing. I've scoured the CO CPA website, and haven't found much info on the topic, so I'll be calling the board tomorrow to make sure there's no “foot fault” if I take the ethics course/exam ahead of time. I did note that they ask for transcripts, which seems odd since I had to send official transcripts when I first applied. I'm in the mode where I just want everything done and out of my hands and into the Board's ASAP.n
