California Ethics Requirement

Hey all! I have been pondering about moving to CA sometime this year and I have been poking around their CPA license requirements. I will have my license in FL around August since that’s where I’m living now. In particular, I am looking for more details on this requirement:

“A minimum of 3 semester or 4 quarter units in courses devoted to accounting ethics or accountants’ professional responsibilities. The course(s) must be completed at an upper division level or higher, unless it is completed at a community college.”

For people that have satisfied this requirement, could you give me an example of the name of the course you took to satisfy this requirement? Florida doesn’t have an ethics requirement and as such, my school (Florida Atlantic University) doesn’t offer any courses that are specifically titled for ethics in accounting and I didn’t previously take any courses like this. I figure I would just need to find an accounting ethics course either online or off if I decided to go that route.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

    I took this EXACT course.

    https://foothill.edu/schedule/outlines.php?act=1&rec_id=5699

I know that CBA requires the words ‘Accounting' and ‘Ethics' in the title. So I just based my search for those classes.

Santa Monica community college also offers an accounting ethics class. I took it online. The class was very easy.

I am taking it online through UCLAExtension.edu, the course is called “Ethics in Accounting MGMT X 423.422”

I was unable to get into the course for Foothill, which fills up very fast, then found the UCLAExtension alternative

my tip for some of these courses, they fill up so fast that you enroll AS SOON AS they become available, like within the first 30 mins. I learned the hard way…..

    BEC - 68,70,72,75 5/15
    AUD - 78(expired), 77 8/15
    REG - 29,58,65,77 1/16
FAR - 56,68,73 - retake October hopefully (last shot)

Been doing this since 2007 on and off...

I am taking UC Sand Diego Extension course which I think is probably better than even a community college. With extension courses, you don't have to enroll, and therefore don't pay any fees other than the actual course. I know every UC has a different price but with San Diego, I think I paid like $700 and that's it! No book, fees, enrollment, etc.
