CA Pathway 1 License Questions

My situation is as follows. I do not have the educational requirements for licensure under pathway 2, thus I plan to be licensed under pathway. I passed all of my exams as of May 2011 and began full time public accounting work as of November 2010. From my understanding of the rules, I could apply for the CPA license in November 2012. However, I have additional part-time, non-public accounting experience from August 2008 – November 2010. Could any of the part-time work count towards the two year requirement?

Per the CPA Licensing Applicant Handbook, 170 hours of part-time employment shall be considered equivalent to one month of full-time employment. However I noticed that there are two forms to verify the experience requirement; one is a CERTIFICATE OF GENERAL EXPERIENCE (PRIVATE INDUSTRY OR GOVERNMENT) while the other is Certificate of General Experience – Public Accounting. If I may apply the part-time, non-public experience as well as the full-time public experience, towards the two year quota, would I need to fill out both forms and have two respective signers (one for each of the time periods)?

Does anyone have experience with the above?

Yes. You need all prior employers to sign off on your experience.

My understanding is that would work as long as you had a CPA sign for the non-public experience. I don't recall seeing a difference for whether the part time is in public or nonpublic. I think your plan would work because the experience can happen before you pass the exams. I haven't gone through the licensing path yet. But I read the instructions often getting ready! HA!

    Congrats on passing 🙂

Thanks for the responses! I guess my biggest uncertainty was if you could use multiple employers/periods of employment to cover the 2 years rather than just one stint. Thus I assume I will fill out a certificate form for each employer.
