Sorry, I know this gets asked a lot, but I want a direct confirmation. I passed all CPA exams this week. I’m currently sitting at 142 units so I’m short 8 units. I’m thinking about taking some summer courses to fill up the 150 requirements.

There’s no specific requirements on what I can and cannot take to fill up those units right? I’m thinking about taking some classes at a City College in an Excel Course and some Computer Application course.

    Thanks in advance.

Remember for California, the education requirements change for 2014. Here is a link of the change assuming you are not passing everything before Dec 31, 2013. https://www.dca.ca.gov/cba/applicants/tip_sheet.pdf

Yes you can take those extra 8 semester units at a community college. Just remember to send in your official transcript to the California Board of Accountancy after you're done. And always check to make sure you meet the 2014 requirements. If you majored in Accounting at your Undergrad college, then you'll probably fine. But just double check to be sure. Good luck!

Thanks. I'm planning to get licensed by the end of the year so I don't hit the rule change.

I'm in the same boat. Just passed my last exam and need to hit the 150 unit requirement for pathway 2.

I'm at 143 units so I'm taking 2 random classes at a community college which will leave me at 151 units. I'd called the Cal Board of Acctcy and they explained how I can still submit my liscensing app and everything else (PETH exam, and fingerprints, etc) now and then submit the Community college transcripts once those units I'm taking now post.

I think it takes about 4-6 weeks for them to process so you should be more than fine to finish by the end of the year before the 2014 requirements kick in.

    Good luck!
