For many of the BEC multiple choice questions, their is a need for a calculator. This is not too much of a problem, except for the few questions that require me to do things like “square root”. This is very difficult with the generic “desktop” calculator that I was able to use on the AUD exam. For BEC, are we allowed to bring a normal calculator, or is their a more advanced calculator available? How am I supposed to do things like square root? Thank you.

I didn't need any crazy functions for BEC, and no, you cannot bring in a calculator.

No worries, we're all in the same boat and plenty of people pass. It's totally doable with the built-in calculator.

I actually miss the dinky little basic function calculator (faster with the tiny calculator than the on-screen one) you use to get with the paper exam. I actually still have the calculator and box from my 2001 paper exam.

I had a rude surprise when I was taking the BEC final exams in Becker. I had been using the spreadsheet function for many of the problems. When I got the final exam the spreadsheet tool wasn't available (as it wasn't in the actual exam) for the MC questions. Glad I did that during the practice final exams rather than be shocked in the real exam. Funny though.

    I have the same concern.

Does anyone know do we use the same built in calculator for all four parts? I really hate it.

Yes, you have the same calculator for all four parts.

Even if it doesn't have a square root button you can perform the same mathematics with the exponential button to the appropriate power. I'm pretty sure it at least has that, although I can't remember explicitly.

the calculators are crap…….never in million yrs use them at work……..I like my paper spitting 10key

but while studying I suggest you use it once in a while not all the time but some so that on test day you are not learning how to use it………happened to me…….ended up using the paper big time
