Not sure if anyone has experience with licensing in Arizona, but I have a couple of dumb questions and since I know all of you understand the stress of this situation, I thought I’d throw it out there!
1. The application says I need a letter of reference from an actively licensed CPA. To some, this might be a non-issue, but I work for a car dealership. Which means not only did they think I was nuts for taking the exam, but there is NO ONE here that is licensed. Since I’ve been here several years, I am not sure who it would be appropriate to ask? Is the letter supposed to be about my work experience or moral character or … ? The requirements are pretty general and every one else I asked said it was simple, as the CPA’s they worked with had a form letter they used for everyone. Doesn’t really apply here!
2. Any ideas how stringent they are about the work experience? As I mentioned, I work in a car dealership. I am the controller and handle everything in the office up to and including financial statements, so it’s not my actual work experience I am concerned about. My boss is not a CPA (see problem one) but he DOES have an accounting degree and has owned his own business for several years. I just don’t know what they are looking for when it comes to supervisor experience (since AZ does allow non-CPA’s to sign off on work experience)..
Any input welcome! Otherwise, I’ll try calling the state again and see if they will take pity on me this time! Thanks!
