Any tips on doing the Audit part???? I am trying to make it through but I found that I could only do 2-3 hours per night, I would like to get up to 4-5 hours but its just soo boring… I know I will be doing this in the future, buts its just soo repetitive and then when I get to the multiple choice I am so tired, the details mess me up

lol If you think studying for auditing is boring, wait till you're actually auditing. It's much worse.

And I totally agree with you – studying for AUD is terribly boring! It's been more boring than any of the other sections for me. My advice is to break up your study sessions into small blocks like you have been doing. Make brightly colored note cards (that helps me out a lot!). Try following Jeff's study plan… I believe he breaks it up into a few sessions per day, so you're not studying for 4-5 hours in one sitting.

the Becker videos are like watching paint dry! But I was glad to have had them out of the way. I found that the mcq's and notecards were great for getting things drilled into my head. I also kept rereading my notes and notes on mcq's over and over. It is all about repetition. I am not an auditor so most of it was foreign to me. So, I really needed to go over and over…….

    good luck

Yeah Audit, especially the first few chapters, are INCREDIBLY boring. Auditing in reality I think is much more exciting, there's just a lot of dull info you just have to know… (like the vairous reports). Just try and cut your study sessions into many small blocks. And just grit and bear it. you'll get through it soon enough.

Because AUD covers less material and the questions don't typically involve calculations, the questions tend to focus on picky little details or just ask the same things from different points of view. Doing as many MCQ as you can helps because you'll become more familiar with the tricks you're likely to see. I also memorized several things e.g. reporting standards, wording of an unqualified report, wording of the changes required for other types of reports, etc. by recording them and listening to the recording when I was in the car.

I was also doing marathon study sessions because I had 2 weeks to prepare for AUD. When I found myself zoning out, I'd get up and do 5 or 10 minutes of exercise on my Wii or go for a short walk to clear my mind. This really helped me keep going.

    Good luck.

@ ak311 – I only audited for one season, so I can't speak for senior auditors.. but the most exciting thing about auditing as a new hire was looking at 200 pieces of paper to check for an authorized signature, and then putting a little X in a box on a spreadsheet to show that I did it.

Not too exciting. 😉 This was for a medium size regional firm. I'm sure some others may have had a different experience.. just thought I'd share mine.

Hahaha Kandis…that does sound dull!! I never wanted to be an auditor and I think your post just confirmed my decision was good. 🙂

I'm currently studying for AUD and am already starting to doze off during the mcq discussion, which may be the most helpful part. Coffee helps…lots of coffee.

Yes you did make the right deicision! It's funny because, even when I did find something wrong when I was auditing (like a missing signature or something), it was always immaterial. I'd get all excited like “Oh oh, I found an exception!” and my manager would just say “It's immaterial.”

Audit is the most boring of the 4 exams but the material is also the easiest. That doesn't make it the easiest exam to pass though.

I used Roger CPA's course and though it wasn't my favorite section, he made it a bit more entertaining.

All of the sections bore me to tears.

    So does accounting work.

I do like having stable work and collecting a decent paycheck though, and that's why I choose this oh-so-boring career.

2-3 hour per night is not bad. That's a good amount of studying to do on a weeknight. However, on the weekends, do try to put in at least 4 hours a day. I always put in 4 hours a day on the weekends. It's highly recommended that you study at least 20 hours total per week. I always study that much, yet I still don't feel prepared. Oddly enough, I'm one of the few people that love accounting and think it's exciting in every way. Too bad this exam is so darn hard. It would be a shame if I can't become a CPA because I enjoy the work A LOT…..even Auditing, believe it or not.

That's the thing the general schedule im on is that Ill study from 6-7am in the morning, then 10pm-1am every night. I'm a bank teller so I get a 2 days off and get to come in late one day so on those 3 days im doing (2) 3 hour sessions, this brings me to about 33 hours per week…I've got about 9 weeks left, I'm calling my study plan Operation 250…Ultimately though its not about the number of hours, its about the quality of studying I am doing.
