    Hello all,

I am currently a MA candidate, but for family reasons will be moving to Charlotte in the next couple months. I have passed the exam as a MA candidate but am not sure if I should start the licensing process in MA, in which I won’t be licensed until March, or just start the licensing process in North Carolina since that’s where I’ll be in March. Any advice??

I have a couple of questions on the license process in NC too…

    1) I need three references from licensed CPAs…do they all need to be NC CPAs or can they be licensed CPAs from any state? And can it be just CPAs you know or does it have to be CPAs that you have worked under? I’m just a little unclear on this one…

    2) The way I understand the work experience rule is that you need either one year of public or private accounting experience working under direct supervision of a CPA; or you need four years of accounting experience not under supervision of a CPA. I have five years of experience as a staff accountant at a publicly traded bank not working under direct supervision of a CPA…would that qualify under the experience rule?

I would really appreciate any advice that you could give…thanks everyone!! 🙂

Contact Phyllis Elloitt at the NC CPA board. She replies quickly to questions. phyllise@nccpaboard.gov

In reference to your 2nd question…….you are correct if you have worked as a staff accountant not under the direction of a CPA then that experience will meet NC requirement for work experience. I just spoke with a recruiter about that issue earlier this week. I am not sure about the CPA references. Hope this helps! Good Luch
