    Hello fellow forum members,

This is my first post, but seeing as this appears to be a very helpful community and i’m working on passing the CPA exam (so i’m sure i’ll have many questions), I felt joining this forum would be worthwhile.

So some background, I graduated college a few years ago in 2010, but was unable to get into public accounting, due to economic conditions. I ended up working in private until late last year, where I started working at a small accounting firm (10 people). Unfortunately, after tax season, I was laid off. Currently, I’m trying to get back into public, but am having a difficult time.

Despite networking, it seems that without 150 credits it’s nearly impossible to get into audit right now. A few years ago, I spoke to the big 4 recruiters and they told me I wouldn’t even be considered without those credits. Recently, I contacted another large firm (not big 4), getting told the same thing. Right now, i’m working on passing the CPA examination (FAR passed, working on REG). I’m also targeting smaller firms, but it seems like these smaller firms are 90%+ tax.

My questions are: Is it possible to get into a larger firm, without 150 credit hours? In addition, I was wondering if it looked bad that I graduated in 2010? Lastly, would you guys have any tips for getting into a mid-large sized accounting firm?

    Thanks for the help guys.
