Something similar will happen in Puerto Rico. After 2012 they will require 2,000 hours (one year) of accounting experience to get licensed as a CPA, as NASBA probably pushed the board to do it.

Where does it say that california is changing its education requirements in 2014? I haven't heard that…

They need to be licensed prior to the change. Which means they need to have applied and had that app in the mail by 12/31/2013 11:59PM. At this point if you can sit for it now you can. I am in cali and am sitting by pathway 1. However, I have experience and I am in private so I have no reason to attain or desire to attain attestation, auditing hours. Tell you friend to look at their time line. Are they currently working? Is there and ACTIVE license CPA in the office and would they have they already began that two year experience. The difference between Pathway 1 and pathway 2 is the ability to practice out of the state of California. However I have been informed that if I return to Grad school after I have attained my License and receive my additional 150 hours I can update my educational information to practice outside of state.

I cant wait for this to be over.

Herbieherb, I have the same question. There's about 2 and a half years left until pathway 1 is still available. If I… say sit for and pass all four sections in 1 year, that leaves me 1 year and a half until the magic date 2014… not enough to fulfill the 2 years work experience requirement.

    The question is:

If I pass all 4 sections of the CPA Exam, and APPLY for licensure before 2014, will I still be able to aqcuire the 2 years experience under pathway 1? Or will I be forced to complete the 150 hours after passing the exam as I will not be able to complete the 2 years experience before the 2014 deadline?

I've contacted the CA Board of Accountancy and the university I graduated but I haven't gotten any answers yet.
