Accounting credits make up issue

Finally, I am asked to make up 8 accounting credits for License purpose. The board said any accounting courses offered by a community college count.
I want to take some fancy and practical accounting courses, but not sure whether they can be counted as accounting credits.
They are named “excel accounting applications” and “payroll and business tax accounting”. They are both ACNT-1XXX courses.
Any suggestions that I can take those courses or I’d better to choose something else.

Your Board has the final say, talk to them before you pay anything or take a class. Send them the Course Description and a link to it on the college's website.

Thank you so much for always answering my questions.
It takes the Board at least 7 business days before they can answer any email and the answer is very vague. You need to email again… I am very frustrated with that. The Board let me ask the school, and the school let me ask the board. I believe the Board has the final say, but they don't want to say now.
In this frustrated situation, is it better for me to go with UNA? At least it is an accredited university. I am not New York applicant. Is there any other Michigan candidate who has taken UNA courses successfully recognized as accounting credits by the Board of Michigan?

You're welcome. I understand how difficult the rules can be to navigate.
Why is MI saying you need 8 more credits? Did you have classes that they won't accept or are you short the required amount of accounting courses?
I am reading the MI LARA Guide as I write this and it says the educational institution must be approved by the board – do or can they provide a list of approved educational institutions? Are they kicking out foreign education?
Have you read through the Michigan rules for accountancy here: https://ars.apps.lara.state.mi.us/AdminCode/DeptBureauAdminCode?Department=Licensing%20and%20Regulatory%20Affairs&Bureau=Bureau%20of%20Professional%20Licensing

    read specifically R 338.5115 Rule 115, R 338.5116 Rule 116

I contacted everybody I can contact.
MICPA is very nice, they offered suggestions, but not final say.
Board of Michigan– a big shit I would say. One of the receptionist is called “Push back”. She never answers any of my question, but just ask me to wait or push me back to ask school counselor.
It takes at least 7 business days for the Board to reply a email, the communication becomes extremely difficult.
The safest way is to take accounting credits in Michigan colleges, but the tuition fee is super high.
I emailed the Board asking for whether I can take accounting courses in my local college not in Michigan, or I can take UNA online courses. But I am afraid when I get a reply, school already begins.
The recognition process of accounting credits is also very difficult– from 12 credits recognized to 15 credits recognized (missing counting by the reviewer), then 15 credits to 22 credits (by arguing and submitting more evidence). From 22 credits to 30 credits, I need to find somewhere to get those credits.
Just wonder why UNA choose Wiley CPA excel as the textbooks which makes some Board categorize it to a review course and refuse to recognize the accounting credits. It makes me feel unsafe to take these courses.

Compared with the torture process of making up credits, CPA exams are so enjoyable.

Read the rules I sent you above. Figure out the school accreditation for where you want to study and confirm whether Michigan requires “upper level” – if they do then community college may not work. Did you take exams as a Michigan candidate? I can't figure out how you qualified to take exams in MI?
As for UNA, confirm they are still using Wiley texts now and whether their accreditation is valid for MI. Look at LSU online.

I passed exams in another jurisdiction, which requires only 15 accounting credits to sit for the exams.
I transferred CPA scores to Michigan for License. Everything is ok just need to making up 8 accounting credits. Michigan does not require upper level accounting courses. They recognize community college courses in Michigan, but not sure whether recognizes my local college. The director from UNA said MI was fine with it. They are using Wiley Excel textbooks now which makes me feel not safe.

I searched NASBA Michigan for CPA exam requirements and found:
    Course Requirements:
Education earned at a regionally accredited community college or two-year degree granting institutions is acceptable.
Correspondence and/or online courses are acceptable when you receive credit for the courses at a regionally accredited college or university. These courses must appear on an official transcript.
AP, pass/fail grades and/or CLEP credit are acceptable if credits are awarded by a regionally accredited college or university.

This looks Michigan is quite flexible with courses.

Is UNA accredited? If so, read the rules I sent you and do what you think will be acceptable. Why Michigan?

UNA is accredited. But they use Wiley CPA books and I have already passed the CPA exams. It is really duplicates, isn't it? Why Michigan? Because I misunderstood they only requested 4 accounting courses if you have a master degree. There are so many uncertainties, you won't know until the final say from the Board.
From the law regulations you sent to me, almost all of the colleges and universities in the US are accredited. I will just take something I like then. Thanks a lot for your warm-heart.

I am so lucky today to get Macy (my favorite Michigan Board receptionist) picked up my phone. She answered my question in a professional way and also forwarded my email to the reviewer for quick response.
Macy is so great! Anybody deals with the Michigan Board should ask her for help (then you don't need to wait for 7 business days for urgent matters). If it is not Macy, my previous 3 credits missing count won't be picked up also.
There are 3-4 receptionists from that Board. One of them I really hate hate hate… I wish I won't need to talk to her forever. God bless me.
Anyway, Macy and the reviewers are pretty good and nice.

I will choose the local community colleges. Board cannot write it in paper which school is ok and which is not. But they orally promised to accept classes from an accredited two year colleges (CHEA). UNA is not attractive to me because they are actually CPA reviews. I have already passed the exams, so I need something fresh!

Good deal. That sounds much better than spending the money and the time only to find out they are not acceptable. I don’t know why they can’t tell you up front. Good luck!🍀

I don’t know you figured out what textbooks UNA needs because 1)the website is the worst and 2) when I did find the curriculum none of the materials had been determined for most of the classes I tried. But you know Wiley is a textbook company and not just a cpa review, right?

I'm doing the UNA Audit II course right now and it's really just fluff to get you the credit. Much of it is the same information you've seen in your CPA review. As far as textbooks, there are none because it's an online course. They provide you with blocks of text to read before you take the quizzes and unit exams.

Nothing special really. An easy A for someone who has passed the CPA exam.

As far as if the credits would be accepted. I'm in Florida and the FL Board of Accountancy told me they accept UNA credits.
