Hi! I am new here. Can anyone help me with my situation? I graduated BS Accountancy at University of the East Manila, Philippines 2014 and moved here in Minnesota, US last 2016. I came across an article stating that I can actually acquire a CPA license in the US. I already checked NASBA and read the state requirements but some information are confusing. Their library where I am supposed to get more info charges fee. I am currently enrolled at a state university here in Minnesota finishing liberal education courses. I am a permanent resident also.
    1. Can anyone walk me through or tell me the step by step process I should do?
    2. Based on your experience, 120 or 150 credits how did your evaluation go? I mean how long did it take for you to fulfill the 120 or 150 credits before you can actually sit for the CPA exam?
    3. what is the 24 credit hours? is it on top of 120 or 150 credits?
    4. Did you apply for financial aid assistance (FAFSA) did they approve it or not?

    thanks

    Hi CPA1993,

Can i ask, with regards to evaluation of the TOR by an evaluation services provider, is it mainly for the purpose of registering to take exam or is it for initial licensure? i am so confused =x

    Hi All,

I am researching about CPA examination here in Kansas. I am a Filipina, graduate BS Accountancy in the PUP year 1999. I got twin kids so never had any accounting experience here in US. But planning to come back in Accounting, God-willing. Just want to get connected with you guys as I was an Accountant in the Philippines before I came here last year 2007. Since then, I work in warehouse in the night shift to chip in our family income. And it is an easy job for my situation.

Can one of you guys set up a facebook or group for Filipino Accountants that is here in USA to help out each other in accounting issue?

    Thanks so much

Hello! I'm also a graduate of BS Accountancy in PUP batch 1999. We just moved here in Virginia and currently working on requirements to sit for CPA Exam. I'm so glad to have found this forum and I'd be happy to have friends and study mates.

    Hello! 🙂

So glad i found this forum! I'm a CPA in the Philippines and I'm planning to take the CPA US uniform examination.:)
Appreciate to get some thoughts on the MRA between CPA Australia and CPA US— correct me if I'm wrong, my understanding is that, if you pass the CPA Australia examination, you'll be allowed to practice your license in the US as well?

Need some thoughts on this. 🙂
    Thank you so much!

Hello kababayans! Glad to know there are a lot of us. 🙂 I'm also a CPA in the Philippines. I migrated here in US three years ago and I'm currently reviewing for the US CPA exam. I graduated from UST and had my transcripts evaluated. I didn't take any additional classes for it. I think most Accountancy courses in the Philippines meet the education requirements to sit for the exam here in US. 🙂 Good luck everyone!

Good luck to you guys! Kaya nyo yan! I graduated in 1991, and just recently had the time and opportunity to re-study and passed the US CPA exams. I received my license early this month at 50 years old!

Rey Hipolito is correct, most Accountancy program (5 years Accountancy program) in the Philippines meet the educational requirement to sit for the US CPA exam.

Kamusta? As to my story, I spent 19 years of my life in the Philippines, and have been living in Canada for at least 30 years. I received my 4-yr Bachelor of Science in Commerce (Accounting major) from the University of San Agustin (October 1985), Iloilo City, Philippines. I started my journey with my US CPA designation in 1987 as a Washinton State exam candidate (grandfathered status since 2000 – due to passing Business Law in 1999). About at the same time in Canada, I was in pursuit of the former Chartered Accountant(CA), currently called Chartered Professionals Accountants(CPA) designation, which I started in 1994. I decided to do more schooling and pursued the UBC-DAP credential while waiting for my US CPA exam results and finding a ‘special' internship/articling for my former CA program. I thought I would be a US CPA in 2010 since I passed REG and AUD, and my FAR and BEC are in the 60s; however, with an 18months threshold, I lost my credits and my FAR and BEC marks deteriorated to around 60s/50s since then. So after eight years, I decided to go back to school in Canada and started pursuing the new Canadian CPA designation, which internship/work experience is very similar to the US CPA. Unfortunately, I recently learned that any prior courses taken, after 10 years, they are no longer acceptable credits in Canada, especially for pursuing higher education. Most colleges will give you an equivalent to high school and have to take English courses. However, not all bad, CPA Canada will grant you at least 3 years' worth of your degree as per WES evaluation; likely, you will only have to take one course in each area of an accounting major degree, for example. This is why each time I met someone who likes to go back to school, I want them to be aware of the school system in that country or state. So far, I am doing fine, enjoying college life, hoping to graduate with my last two young adults attending SFU, doing their computer science (AI major). I haven't forgotten my US CPA (the last exam was taken in 2019) and Canadian CPA yet (last assessed 2018/2019). I know I have a better chance of becoming a US CPA or a Canadian CPA if I nailed my BEC contents. Anyway, as to my USA'85, it's called Bachelor in Accountancy with a 5-years degree program now; I requested my BSC'85 TOR, two years ago. I am so glad my USA alma mater has been keeping up with the changes, including outside Philippines educational requirements. For now, once I graduate from my BBA-Accounting degree, I might try as another state exam candidate, a state where my husband wants to retire (he still have 7-12 years of working life), somewhere warm during the winter season in Canada (we live in Surrey), closed to Canada/USA border. Lastly, my apology for the long post, I am just so excited to share my story and meeting you here; I didn't know you are also here. Good luck with the application, please do it sooner. ‘Paalam muna, sa susunod uli'(good bye for now)!:)
