It used to be about 3 months. Anyone know if that’s changed? Thanks!

Just to clarify on the above.
When I sent my paperwork in April I was told 10-12 weeks (as were the people from March I believe).
When I called in June I was “advised” that the processing time was now 14-16 weeks, instead of 10-12.

When I called to inquire about the timeline in December 2016 the process time was 6-8 weeks.

I can't answer your other questions, but the processing time seems to be very dependent on volume. The poor people I talk to always sound overwhelmed.

I was originally looking at the Board of Regents meeting schedule on the advice of a friend who works for the state. I looked into it more and I think this is the specific board meeting for CPAs, not of sure the details on their approvals process though. https://www.op.nysed.gov/boards/07262017CPAMtgAgenda.htm

No, my application is to get licensed (after passing the tests), not to sit for an exam.

14 weeks today. They are still quoting 14-16 weeks on the phone (very nice/friendly woman).
My file is still with the board.

Here is something for you guys waiting on your license.
Find the status of your license application by checking our online license verifications; your name will be added immediately when your license number is issued.

@ReckedRacing thank you for the update. I'm just over 13 weeks myself. I check the link constantly at this point haha

I have a question that might be beneficial for you. From what I remember, approval to sit for the exam was administered through NASBA and the process was relatively quick. I was just wondering if there were any particular circumstances that caused you to go through the NYSED. However, I sat for my exams in a different state, so maybe the process is different.

I only have a 120 hour degree (circa 2002, shout out SUNY Albany).
I did not send in the application and $377 by August 1, 2009 so I was no longer qualified for licensure. I could sit under the 120 hour rule but then would need another 30 credit hours.
I am now taking the 15 year full time experience path which exempts the candidate from all education requirements.
My 15 years of experience needs to be approved by the NYS CPA board, and then my file is referred to NASBA and I can sit for the exams.

I asked NYS if I could sit under the 120-sit rule, and then switch to 15 years experience once I reached my 15 year anniversary and was told that once I began a path I had to stay on that pathway.
I am waiting for approval before spending on a review course.

I e-mailed again today on my license application and was directed to ask the CPA Board directly, cpabd@nysed.gov

I am now awaiting their response as it has been 16 weeks and 2 days since my application was sent to them.

    Well, they responded quite quickly,

“We are currently processing applications from 3/17/17. Your application was received on 3/29/17. Therefore, it should not be much longer before you get a decision. If anything is needed from you, an evaluator will contact you.”

The NYS Board has like less than 5 people working there, incredibly slow & inefficient. I think I waited like 4 months after submitting the requested info to get the license.

Just checked online this morning, still no license number. It's been 17 weeks and 2 days since the board got my application. Heaven forbid they need additional information once they get to it.

I got on the phone yesterday and they quoted me 1 month to process my transcript and another 14-16 weeks for the license… so if I am lucky, I will get the CPA license by December… ridiculous, considering it is almost the season for midsize/big4 hiring and/or waiting 4-5 months for a raise!

Off topic: I had submitted my 120 credit to NASBA to sit for exam and passed all the exam. Then I went back to get my Masters. After getting my Masters, I only submitted my 150 credits to NYS Education Board with Form 2. Just wondering if I need to submit my 150 credit education to anyone else, like to NASBA?
