I just visited with my father, as its probably the last time I will see him before my first exam day. He has been a licensed CPA for over 30 years, and his word’s of encouragement to me before I left were simple and to the point: “Don’t blow it.”

    Thanks Dad. Lol.

Ha! Mine keeps saying, “You'll be fine. You're smart.” Like I'm taking a 3rd grade spelling test or something. I know his intentions are good, but damn it's annoying.

Yeah… I've always done well on standardized tests so everyone says I'll have no problem passing the CPA exam. I try to explain that it's a whole different level and it's not like finding out that I read at an 11th grade level in the 6th grade, or taking the SAT's or even the GRE. I appreciate people's support and confidence but they don't get it.

My Dad's words of encouragement: “So are you not done with that exam yet? Hasn't it been over 2 years now?”

I lost my dad a year ago and the last phone conversation I had with him ended by him saying “I know you have to study. You just keep it up and don't quit. I don't want to tell anyone you failed and the only way to fail it to quit so go hit the books. Love you kid.” My dad was a welder and he knew how hard this exam was. Sorry about bringing down the thread but this made me think of just how much I miss the old man and why I'll never quit.
