Will pay $ for quick advice (Scheduling Question)

I am scheduled to take Audit on January 13th. Due to an unfortunate string of events, I am way behind where I need to be in terms of studying.

I need to use these next 16 days wisely. I will not be able to reschedule my test due to busy season being right around the corner and my NTS is about to expire.

Can someone give me a recommendation on how to cram and give myself the best chance at passing the test?

I am half way through the third lecture (out of 6). I was thinking I should go through all the lectures and work all the homework questions except the “Optional Practice Questions” in Becker which tend to be very high volume (100+ in each chapter). I was thinking if I atleast went through all the lectures and did the homework questions aside from the optional ones I would atleast get a decent feel for the test and give myself enough time to review at the end.

I'd recommend skipping the lectures and working all the homework questions, simulations, and as many final exams as possible. The progress tests are useful to help identify weak areas.

Do you have the flashcards? If so, do those when possible. And I *highly* recommend doing ALL the homework and Final Exams. The homework and final exam questions were excellent preparation for my audit exam. 🙂

    Skip the lectures.

Work every question in Becker as many times between now and the test as you possibly can. Don't skip any optional questions. They work the edges of knowledge and I firmly believe that they spell the difference between utter frustration on test day and triumph.

Work the MCQ's until you are sick and then keep going. Do not skip any of them.

I assume you mean to read the chapter instead of viewing the lectures (I already have all the stuff they tell you to write and highlight noted in my book anyway)

    My “efficient” study strategy:

    https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-forum/topic/my-study-strategy#post-233722

    FAR - 79 - 07/2012
    AUD - 65, 78 - 11/2012
    BEC - 76 - 11/2012
    REG - 78 - 01/2013
    ETH - 98 - 01/2013

    Material: Wiley books

In my opinion, with AUD, it is much more helpful to take the approach of knowing why three of the answers are wrong than to know which one is right. If you can keep that in mind, it will be super helpful in passing.

As the others have suggested, just do the questions in the software until you are blue in the face. Do not skip any of them, and if you are really concerned, shell out the $87 bucks and get the Wiley test bank and do as many of them as you can, too.

I'm using Wiley for FAR and REG since my Becker expired. There are much better simulations on it for FAR and REG than Becker could dream of giving, so I assume the same goes for AUD.

I wouldn't bother with practice sims. Just do as many MCQ as you can. You have access to the authoritative literature for the sims portion of the exam, so you can literally lookup most of the answers if you allow yourself enough time.

    FAR - 79 - 07/2012
    AUD - 65, 78 - 11/2012
    BEC - 76 - 11/2012
    REG - 78 - 01/2013
    ETH - 98 - 01/2013

Make sure you do practice the research SIMS. Easy points.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to pick up the Ninja Audio if you have a commute, workout routine or any other “down time” where you could use the audio to drill key points into your brain. Also, when you take the test, be sure to use the Auth Lit as much as you can for the SIMS. I know that some of them can be found if you leave yourself time at the end. Other than that, work as many MCQs as you can over the next 2 weeks. Make notes on the questions that you miss so that you can go back and review. As CPAmeans said above, make sure you understand why the correct answer is correct as well as why the wrong answers are wrong.

    AUD 4/12/12 79
    FAR 5/29/12 76
    REG 8/2/12 82
    BEC 8/30/12 72 Retake 10/18/12 76!!! DONE!!!!
ExamMatrix, Wiley Books, NINJA notes and audio

Assuming you've done the homework problems in Chapter 1 & Chapter 2 already (you did not say):

27th & 28th – Finish up Chapter 3 – Focus mostly on the MCQs, but go back and look at the areas of the book/lecture for problems you struggle with. If you don't get through all the problems, that is okay – move onto new things on the 29th.

29th & 30th – Chapter 4 – once again focus mostly on the MCQs if you can. If you feel like you really need to read the book or watch the lecture. Go ahead and do that. If you don't get through all the problems, that is okay – you must move on.

    31's & 1st – Chapter 5 – same as above.

    2nd & 3rd – Chapter 6 – same as above.

4th-11th – Do a progress test every single day. If you have more time, do longer progress tests. On the weekends do multiple progress tests all day long. Progress tests have questions from every chapter/section but have MORE questions from the chapters that are more heavily tested. At the same time, they are random, and it is very important to be practicing on a mix of questions from different chapters/areas. For every question you get wrong, understand why, even if it slows your progress down by making you click the button to take you to the text/lecture. For me, understanding why I get the questions wrong takes longer than it does to pick my answers.

12th – Do the problems at the end of every chapter in the BOOK (usually around 15-25 problems listed). I find this is a good review and have done it before every exam.

That is my advice. I would also try to do at least one practice SIM sometime as well.

The main point, is that you NEED to keep moving. Don't get stalled and stuck on Chapter 3 or 4 or 5 for days on end. If you weren't able to get through all the questions you wanted to, that is okay, leave them, you'll get tested on that material when you take the progress tests. You don't want to get stuck on a Chapter, not leave enough time for review, and then forget everything you learned in the beginning chapters. Make a timetable and stick to it.

    You owe me $20.

I would watch the lectures on the heavily tested areas that you are aware of. Then I would just do MCQs until you can't bare to look at them anymore!
