I passed Far with a whopping 76% wooptydoo! and I about to take REG on thurday. I do not have any confidence at all even though i have studied for four months. I think REG is sooo tricky and way too much conditions. Theres sooo much gray area to consider before picking an answer. Please help from anyone reading this. I need words of encouragement that REG is doable because I am about to cancel my test on thursday!

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 74,84 🙂
    REG - 76
    BEC - 72, 80

I guess I am confused…why would you not take it if you have been studying, have already paid for the test, and wont be able to re-schedule by the end of the window?

    AUD 73 (Aug 12) 77
    BEC 66 71 (Nov 12) 80
    REG 54 81 (May 13) 81
    FAR 63 (Dec 13) 75 TEXAS

I am planning to reschedule till January, i will get charged 86$ i believe. I have been studying. I dont know if its the Reg materials or it's the effect of postpartum but Reg is so confusing. I am just way so confused.

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 74,84 🙂
    REG - 76
    BEC - 72, 80

    @hmesalguero,

Sounds like you are having some pre-REG jitters & a little burnout – which is pretty normal. Your studying must be even more difficult if you have a newborn. So make sure to take a deep breath and look at your situation before you cancel.

You've passed 2 sections so far – so half way thru ! And by the way, a 76 earns the same credit as a 99 !!!

How have you been doing on the REG tests ? How do feel on REG versus FAR/AUD at this same stage ? Have you reviewed the REG Content Specs Outline to evaluate where you are ? Will much additional study time help, or would the experience of taking REG help you ?

If you are on the ‘bubble' as to being prepared – do only a high level review tomorrow and go into the exam with a fresh mind. If you are no where close to being ready, then I would pay the change fee and re-schedule – as long as you are still within your NTS period.

In any event – do whatever is best – but make sure not to reschedule only because of last minute panic / uncertainly.

Good luck to you and congrats on being a new Mom !

hmesalguero For me FAR is much easier than REG, but the test is passable considering that others have done it. I also passed FAR on my first try, and I have taken REG more than once. I can't advise you about the rescheduling your test especially since you have studied so hard. Much success to you.

If it's tough for you, it'll be tough for the other candidates.

Take a deep breath and remind yourself that you're more prepared than the person sitting next to you.

@Roma You really did well on your tests. Did you use the Wiley books alone or also the On-line Test Bank. You aced Regulations. Any tips to share?

    @tuwanda,

Thanks. I used both books + test bank.

I did every MCQ question in Wiley twice. The first time thru I did a slow walk-thru of every question / answer to make sure I understood all concepts (Wiley answers are great learning tool). The second time thru, I improved my scores 10-15 % and improved my speed. This carried over to the exams.

The test bank complimented the books well and I did as many as I could. The reports track your progress on each area so that helps as well.

On REG, I did well on the MCQ's (very similar to Wiley) and bombed a couple of the SIMS, one of which luckily must have been a pre-test. I needed every possible moment for the SIMS.

    Good luck !

If you think about it the only thing you really have to lose right now is money and you are going to lose half of that either way. You may as well take the exam and see how you do. I do not feel ready for Reg this week either but I would rather take it and fail then reschedule. If I reschedule then I definitely lose $90 and another month worth of time studying that I could be spending with her. I used to be so scared of failing but when I started rationalizing it like this I became less afraid of the exam and started taking more risks. I took BEC with less than 4 weeks to study and failed with a 74. I do not regret it though because at least I do not have to wonder if I really need to spend the next month studying. The chance at passing was worth it.

From my own experience and feeling much like you, I took the dive and took my exam this morning and was pleasantly surprised with my comfort level. I studied 2.5 months, which were grueling. I didn't do many multiple choice questions nor sims, but then again I justify this by knowing/understanding concepts. The way I see it is, I so saw this exam is doable, and should I need retake it can be done early next month. In meantime, while score releases moving onto bec. I felt this way about far and came out with a 76 as well, and I'll take it!

Best of luck in whatever you decide.

    FAR - 7/16/2012 *76 : 2.5mo [Exp. 1/2014]
    AUD - 8/31/2012 *82 : 1mo
    REG - 11/27/2012 *83 : 2.5mo
    BEC - 2/27/2013 *80 : 2.5mo LET'S DO THIS!!!

Okay. So, I feel I did better on my REG test by using the Wiley Books and the Test bank along with Becker. They both compliment each other. I passed BEC an FAR using Becker and Wiley, and I thought that I could pass REG with just Becker. I was sooooo wrong. When you know better you do better. Thanks for sharing!

    Hello “hmesalguero”:

There is no question in my mind that REG is tougher than FAR. I passed FAR first time but it took me few times(I am embarrassed to mention it here) to pass REG. I thought REG is easy because I have studied tax to prepare for EA exam and I do little tax on the side. But man— I was wrong. I have passed all 4 parts and by far FAR is the toughest one for me.

    Good luck.

    FAR PASSED
    BEC PASSED
    REG PASSED
    AUD PASSED

I do not think REG is harder or more tricky than FAR. I have no experience in tax or business law and to me REG was way easier than FAR. However I personally know candidates who are in the tax field yet struggled to pass REG. I think candidates are intimidated by business law and then think they have to know/memorize figures. Well FAR is totally different as it covers small aspects from REG, AUD and BEC plus it has more details items and NFP & govt. The key with Reg is to have the foundational knowledge of basis, recognized vs. realized and general knowledge of business law.

Only you can tell if you are prepared enough to take REG. However, I will say that most candidates felt that they were never 100% ready yet took REG and pass. So yes REG is passable, but you must trust in your preparation, you should have confidence. You can get a 76 for FAR and then get a 90+ for REG, both scores are part of the CPA process.

You have probably made your decison to take or cancell before reading this. Do not be intimidated by REG, don't use up memory space to remember all the amounts, just know that there are phaseouts and limitations.

One of my professor in Grad school had said “if you really and truly understand all aspects of tax then you are just as confused as those who enacted them”. Tax law are constantly changing so don't try to know each and every figure you come across.

All the best in passing REG.

I agree to an extent. FAR was the most in-depth, but I was the least familiar with the material from REG. Most of the FAR material had been driven into my head in school.

    BEC - 90 PASSED
    FAR - 84 PASSED
    AUD - 93 PASSED
    REG - 84 PASSED

    I DID IT!!!!
