Which part to take first if I'm doing a MAcc in Fall?

    Hey All,

I’m new to the forum. Currently in the process of going through the CPA exam registration process and hoping to be registered and able to schedule before the MAcc starts in late august (I graduate in a month). I was wondering which part of the CPA I should take first, the MAcc is a one year program designed for students to take the CPA along the way (lighter course loads during the winter and spring quarters). My question is, since I’m taking the MAcc with emphasis in Financial Accounting, would it be wise to study and try to take FAR over summer? This will help with my knowledge during the MAcc and allow me CPA study time that would otherwise have been devoted to class study time. Thanks for your input.

Wouldn't it be overwhelming to study for FAR while taking your MAcc? I'm taking 3 classes this quarter at ucla ext. while working full-time. Planning to finish my accounting and tax classes before I review for any section. I think it would be better to get all your classes out of the way before studying for a section.

I'm graduating from a Macc program Friday and I was able to get FAR done this semester, so it's doable.

    FAR 4/9/12- PASSED
    BEC 7/13/12- PASSED
    AUD 8/16/12- Ughhh 71, Rematch: 90!!!
    REG-12/6/12 PASSED

I would recommend starting with REG because it would be the most different from what you would be studying. It is really a personal preference. I started with REG because I had just taken Blaw and hated tax so I wanted to get it out the way.

    Reg - 2/24/12 passed
    BEC - 4/3/12 passed
    FAR - round 2 7/1/12 passed
    AUD - round 2 11/01/12

    Using Becker, wiley, and NINJA.

surfer4life949 – I'm in the same boat. Starting MACC mid-August, Financial Reporting/Audit concentration, intense 1-year program.

I want to get FAR out of my way before school really begins, so I (hopefully) will take it mid- end-August. This decision is based solely on the amount of material to cover – I feel I gotta do it while I only have 1 job (I also will be working as a GRA in school) and no school. Do not really care if studying for FAR will help with my MACC, just want to get this monster out of the way.

if I won't be able to get all papers together for Jul-Aug window, I will try to pass both FAR and AUD in October.

    FAR
    AUD 02/10/14 passed
    BEC
    REG

@ zerohedge – I also hate tax with a passion lol; so I let REG be until I graduate next spring. Feel like I have a better chance to pass FAR.

Masa_inn i'm gonna hopefully have all my paperwork done by end of July/August so I can squeeze FAR in at the end of August before the Masters. The reason I wanna try to get it done this summer is because I'll be working part time valet 2-3 days a week (easy) and have a lot of free time to study (I figure I can get 40 study hours in a week NP). The MAcc will take a good chunk of time, it's a 1 year program as well at Cal Poly.
