Hi all,

I am sure this has been asked a million times, so here it goes again. I graduated couple weeks ago and I am waiting for the university to put my degree on my transcript. Once I get that sent out to the board it will take another 6-8 weeks to get my NTS. When do you think is a good time to start studying? I am thinking of taking FAR first.

Are you working? Most people say to start they give themselves 8 weeks for FAR, but I think that is if you are working full time. I sent in my application the same day I requested my transcripts (they had my degree on them) and I got my NTS 4 weeks later. I would say you could start now especially if you never took a governmental/non-profit class or advanced accounting class.

Start studying right away. If you start now in a real way you should be ready around mid-August. It didn't take nearly that long for me to get my NTS, that seems unusually long to me.

A note of caution, I took FAR as my first exam and underestimated it. Take an afternoon or so, flip through the material and map out your study plan for the next 8 weeks. Allow some “wiggle room” for days you will probably take off like 4th of July and family birthdays or whatever.

Half the battle is knowing what you're up against.

I say start studying right away. You will need about 5-6 weeks of good quality studying to pass FAR and it takes about this long, maybe less, for you application to go through and for you to receive your NTS. I agree, FAR is the best one to take right out of college especially if you just took advanced accounting which covered combinations and governmental accounting.
