Whats the best way to tackle FAR SIMS?

    Hey everyone,

So this coming march will be my 3rd retake for FAR. With every score report given back I’ve always had “weaker” rating in the SIMS. I have Becker and NINJA(just added) as my review programs.

In terms of test taking, i just feel like the SIMS are infinitely harder compared to the ones in the software. There are always so many exhibits to look at and so little time that I feel like I get lost with all the boxes to fill out. Each attempt in the past I’ve had to do a some type of financial statement analysis like filling out a consolidation, cash to accrual, or reconciliation. However, I can’t find examples of these type of SIMS questions that are to that level of difficulty.

Does anyone have any tips on how to conquer SIMS in general or how to maximize the points I’d get? I’ve been cranking out multiple choice so far in my re-review.

For me, it was practice. I did the SIMS in my practice to strengthen my knowledge of the topics. I was usually weaker in SIMS too but I took my time and went through them. I took about 10 weeks for REG because of the material and SIMS practice. Good luck.

    FAR - 10/3/16
    BEC - 69 - 10/31/16
    AUD - November 2016
    REG - December 2016

You can practice SIMs using the Progress Test in Becker. I know some people here say that they passed without practicing SIMs whatsoever, but for me personally it helped to grasp the complicated topics

do some sims and watch all of the Becker skillbuilder videos. I have passed doing a few sims and passed doing 0 sims, but I think the skillbuilder videos helped me on all of them.

I have not taken FAR but I will in March so I have no experience of the monster to come, but one way I approach SIMS in the review course (I use Roger), is to first look at what the question/s are asking you for first then scour the exhibits to find the required information necessary to get an answer. Thoughts on this approach?

That's a good approach. You'll be bombarded with so many documents that it's very easy to get lost.
Paying attention to what the question is actually asking for, and then going to find the answer, is the key.
Avoid all the distractor information. Easier said than done.
