What the FAR?! (The exam experience)

So I took FAR (my first section) today in VA and well it was, I don’t know… I didn’t really sleep last night, couldn’t stop thinking about my exam and couldn’t eat breakfast either. So I showed up at the center exhausted and very stressed.

    The exam:

1st MC testlet: easy, 28 mins, maybe guessed on 5 questions tops

2nd MC testlet: easy, 30 mins, maybe guessed on 5 questions tops

3rd MC testlet: easy, 30 mins, maybe guessed on 5 questions max, at this point I was like wth, I’m sure I did ok on the second, why isn’t it getting harder?

So I had 2.5 hours left for the simulations.

1st simulation: knew the topic pretty well, maybe one of the tabs I was not so sure. Since I had so much time, I didn’t start with the comm, did it last. Prolly wrote a full page on the comm, and had 1 hour 15 mins left for the second sim so I took a bathroom & water break.

2nd sim: 1 hour left. Ok 2 of the 5 tabs i wasn’t even sure what they wanted. It was a spreadsheet and i was confused if they wanted me to adjust the balances or write the correct balances. Anyway, second tab sucked. I wrote a good comm so I hope that helps.

Here’s my QUESTION: a tab in the second sim had a lot of JE, and I didn’t complete them in any particular order. I would start with credits, then debits, then go to the next credit. Anyway I hope that is not an automatic incorrect response just because I didn’t align them the “perfect” way.

So at this point I don’t know what to think. I feel that it is more likely than not that I passed but with the complex grading, who knows? Any ideas? This is my first section so i might be delusional….

I'm sure they all looked easy because you were very well prepared.

I think that thinking about the testlet getting harder or easier during the actual exam is a BIG distraction.

    FAR - 7/26/10 - 95
    AUD - 8/10/10 - 88
    BEC - 8/31/10 - 88
    REG - 10/15/10 - 95

I wouldn't say i did everything I could but I am a book learner and I hit the book hard this past week. I was originally signed up for the 16th but I did not get a chance to review even half of the material and I took the first practice becker exam and got ~71%. So I moved my exam to the 23rd. I thought I will be able to review all the material, do the supplemental questions, and simulations.. well never happened. I did the required multiple choice the 2nd time, never did any of the supplemental questions, and only did the first 2 becker simulations. However, I must say that the exam MCs were nearly 80% of the questions that I've seen in becker required HW. And I didn't score super on my 2nd time around MCs. I scored somewhere from 70-90%. I sure felt like governmental & nonprofit was more than 20%.

Sounds like you had a good exam. Many people have indicated they scored 10 – 15 points higher on the actual exam than the Becker Final exams. Sounds like your study plan worked for you. Good luck with your AUD studies.

Last test period there were many posts of people passing who did not complete or feel they did well on the sims. 🙂

11:00 – there no rush hour traffic and I can eat someting before the exam. The traffic to the test site could be a problem for the 1st appointment of the day. Nice to have an easy morning of it and arrive relaxed – no stress from a mess on highway 290!
