We didn't do audit, but we used Lacerte for tax and Lacerte DMS for document filing. I hate both.

We were certified Peachtree distributors too, so that's what we used for accounting. I like it better than Great Plains/Dynamics.

    Tax:

    Individual – Prosystems

    Corporate – Ultratax CS

    Audit:

    Engagement CS

    PP&E:

    Fixed Assets CS

We recently migrated to (mostly) paperless auditing, so all workpapers and audit documentation is stored within Creative Solutions, as well as the trial balance, adjusting journal entries, etc. In a perfect world, the TB is set up to correctly export all the financial data to Ultratax.

Most of our clients use QuickBooks Pro and QuickBooks Enterprise, so we get down and dirty with that as well.

The largest firms generally use Thomson Reuters GoSystem RS or CCH ProSystem fx for tax while mid-size or smaller use UltraTax CS, Intuit ProSeries, or Lacerte. Audit is all over the place, generally with a mix of commercial software and custom workpapers/engagement managers specific to that firm. Creative Solutions is pretty solid overall.

Not sure about the other Big 4, but at EY they use a proprietary audit software program.

And tons of excel of course 🙂
