I need to restudy for FAR and I don’t know where to begin. I don’t necessarily want to watch all the lectures again since that didn’t help much the first time around. is it better to re read the book and just use the lectures a a supplement when you need more detail or explanation? any advice?

    Thanks!

I used the Ninja Notes for FAR as an added supplement. But go to the library and check out “Intermediate Accounting: Demystified”. And then also use accountingcoach.com. Both sources actually have examples that walk you through on how to learn the basics.

The Ninja Audio may be something good to check into. I think hearing it over and over again would be nice.

Go to Wal-Mart and buy a whiteboard for $20 and then pretend you're actually teaching the lectures. There's something about teaching it that helps learn FAR easier.

You can do this, so make the journey fun!

I am currently re-studying for FAR and I agree with Chris on the Ninja notes. I would start by reading those very thoroughly and also your personal notes. If you don't have notes you wrote during the lecture, that is probably a large reason you didn't get as much out of them last time. NINJA 101 is to put the highligher down and write notes πŸ™‚

I would then suggest taking a practice test. You may do really crappy on it but it will give you a decent idea of where you are weak. Focus on those section for a week, then take another practice test. Rinse and repeat. When I took FAR back in January I did the lectures and all that jazz for a good while and got a 66 or a 69 or something. In May I studied for 4 days doing what I said above and got a 72. Sure it isn't a pass but it is sure did show some improvement. I also did the same as above for REG and passed after 2 weeks of studying. Your study habits may not be the same as mine but it is always helpful to consider how others do it.

    Good luck!

I am currently restudying FAR… I used Becker solely first time through. I watched the lectures and highlighted like they said to and did all the MC. First attempt was a 72. That was last November. Per Jeff's advice, I am rewatching the lectures taking my own notes. This seems to be a MUCH better approach. I am also supplementing with Ninja Audio and Notes and Wiley's test bank. I listen to the Ninja audio at work and when I workout and have also listened while taking notes on my Ninja notes. This helps because it provides a condensed version of the Becker overload. I also feel like the Wiley test bank is super helpful because it has a different set of questions. I have a tendency to memorize the answer instead of really understanding the concepts. This helps me here. At least I am hoping so πŸ™‚ My next exam is the end of this month. I am almost done with lectures, and plan on hammering the MC and sims the last two weeks along with rewriting notes. Ugh. So much to learn! Best wishes with your studies!!!
