I used Wiley for BEC and Audit to great success. I tried using it for REG to great failure.
Since tax was what killed me (I am sure), I decided to spend a week to two weeks taking notes from CPAExcel on taxation. My what a difference. The CPAExcel seems to be much easier to understand without as much ‘noise’ and not only easier to understand, better organized via a good framework. The Wiley was a literal brain dump of facts without as much organization.
So maybe I was wrong and CPAExcel is the way to go. The only thing that concerns me is that it feels light in the MCQ’s….there seems to be a lot more notes than mcq’s and SIMS for CPAExcel.
In addition to this plan, I am making note cards as I go along. My wife and I have an 8 hour drive each way at the end of the month to the beach and she’s going to go over the cards with me several times coming and going. That will help maximize time.
I gotta get it this time or it could be disaster for this process. I’m thinking that I may schedule for Friday the 13th. That will give me two weeks to get through the CPAExcel notes and then three weeks for intensive MCQ’s and SIMS practice. Then that would give me 7 weeks to study for FAR. In my mind, it’s more important to get REG done. If I rush REG retake then I might fail REG again and then be stuck trying to figure out what to do. It may impact FAR but if I can pass REG, give FAR a good 7 weeks then if I fail FAR so be it.
