Using scratch paper during exam…

Two questions on using scratch paper during the exam…

1.) When I took the first test, they gave me some scrap paper with like four sheets of paper to it… but what if I needed like a lot more than that… I am prepping for FAR now, and I find I am using tons of paper now to do the calculations… Am I going to be able to get a lot of paper?

2.) Can I HOLD ONTO the paper? For example, I have a little trick I’ve used in the past where I will remember something just enough to write it down when I get into the test… Then I’ll write it down when the test starts, so I can forget about it and refer back to it when I need it… I’m wondering if this is an okay technique to use…

My test center will only let me have one packet at a time. They will bring me more but I have to raise my hand for it and they take my old scratch paper.

You have to surrender your old scratch paper when they give you a new booklet.

I tend to be someone who likes to do calculations on scratch paper too, but I have yet to use more than just the 1st page of the booklet of paper they gave me.

    FAR - 92 (4/27/12)
    AUD - 96 (7/17/12)
    BEC - 92 (8/30/12)
    REG - 91 (11/12/12)

I also use the paper heavily (for calculations, exam time planning, simulation strategy, etc) and have never run out of space.

No harm in doing the brain dump; just be sure you don't let the exam time out on you. As others have said, if you do need additional paper, you will have to trade your used booklet in for a clean one.

    BEC 81
    AUD 76
    FAR 70, 76
    REG 58, 78! DONE!

I have yet to use more than the first sheet of scratch paper and I filled up 4 notebooks of calculations studying for FAR. I think we spend more time going through our calculations during study to process each step and when it is “Go Time” we find we don't need to write as much.

On my test booklet I write down my target end times for each testlet and no more than 3 points to remember. If I needed a new booklet I could easily transfer that amount to a new booklet. Find what works for you and go with it.
