    Hi everyone,

I have a question I’m going to ask everyone, and I’m going to ask it as if I were a radio listener calling in for the first time to a talk show.

“Hi guys, long time listener, first time poster. I love the boards, read you guys all the time. I am 3/4 of the way complete and need to re-take FAR. I currently have the FAR Becker material from 2010. I’m fishing for opinions regarding the sufficiency of those materials to study for FAR for 2011. I am open to purchasing new materials, but I know how some things don’t change much year over year and the frugal in me is telling me to save some money here (Becker isn’t cheap!). Thanks again guys, I’ll hang up and listen” *ClicK*

    Couldn’t resist!

    FAR 72 80
    AUD 89
    REG 88
    BEC 80

The main changes I can think of with FAR are the IFRS requirements, the switch from the SAS to the ASC, and the change from the 2 long sims to 7 shorter ones (5-6 task based, 1-2 research). I took FAR at the beginning of April and began studying with the 2010 Wiley book and the Wiley 2011 update book for all the exams. I then got access to Becker 2011 books. The main benefit I received from the Becker books was more detail in some of the material that I found to be too abbreviated in Wiley — governmental and NFP in particular. I liked the summary pages at the end of the Becker books with the IFRS applicable to that section, but I had the same information available (although not quite as well organized) in the Wiley update book. I found working problems in the Wiley online test bank to be of the most help for the changes in the standards and SIMS. It helped me become familiar with the organization of the ASC and there were about 40-50 sims to practice.

I'd highly recommend using a test bank, though, for the MCQ practice as well as the SIMS. I found Wiley's problems to be tougher and better preparation for the exam than Becker.

    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

You definately want to get updated materials like the 2011 Wiley book for FAR. I also highly recommend the Ninja notes! I just took FAR yesterday, and there were a couple questions I could answer just based off what I had studied in the Ninja notes.
