When you say you have studied XX number of hours for a part, does that include sitting through the lectures?

    Lets see,

I averaged about 4.5 hours a day, 5 days a week. To be conservative lets say 4 weeks in a month. I completed the process in about 5 months. So about 450 hours plus or minus 50 hours.

Yeah I think it's safe to say that everyone is including the lecture time when they announce their total study hours.

    FAR: 81 (1/20) AUD: 88 (2/27) REG: 91 (4/19) BEC: 75 (5/20)

I include lecture time during my total study hours, but it's always a fractional amount of the total. I watch the lectures once and take down the notes / highlights, and spend the rest of the time doing multiple choice and / or rereading the text where necessary (using Becker). Scores / hours to date:

    AUD 96, about 100 hours

    BEC 89, about 90 hours

    REG 90, about 150 hours

FAR ? (took a few days ago), 210 hours

My times include the Becker lecture as well.

    My current totals are:

    379.0 total –

FAR: 99.0 (8 days to go, so probably another 20-ish hours)

    BEC: 74.5 (total, passed 93)

REG: 118.0 (total, passed 97, time is high due to having gone through the lectures prior to classes starting on my own)

AUD: 89.5 (total, passed 94, 1st section I took, probably would have been lower if studying today due to more familiar with exam)

I've heard (not sure if it's true) that it takes around 500 hours of studying to pass all the CPA exams. Obviously everyone doesn't fit this, but it seems to be working for me. I'm using the self-study Becker and including lecture videos…

    BEC: 78- 117.5 hours

    FAR: 76- 169 hours

AUD: 69- 108 hours (didn't do enough MC questions from what I can tell)

REG: ?? 4/19/10 – projecting my total hours will be around 130 hours

Very interesting…..I guess I'm very slow trying to learn this stuff, but I think the hours you put-in depends how long you've been out of college though and how many times you have failed, or how hight your IQ is….

BEC: 77: 75 hours – cram 7 days of vacation at home

    FAR: 78: 260 hours – 2 1/2 months…..I felt really stupid and slow during my studies…

AUD: 70,69: 105 hours (50 hours + 55 hours) (also didn't do enough MC questions from what I can tell)

    REG: 73,74,80 210 hours (80 + 60 + 70)

    Total 650 hours

    + AUD;retake 100 hours ( re-study and 2,000+ MCQs- retake April 29)

Grand total 750.00 hours…..I think I probably set the record for most hours studied….lol

    BEC=77, FAR=78, REG=73,74,80, AUD=70,69, 84 DONE!

I studied about 75 hours for FAR and 65 hours for AUD. If you include the supplemental questions, I only got through 65% of the Becker MC for FAR. I came VERY close to rescheduling my exam because I thought there was no way on earth I was prepared, but it was my first exam and I thought “eh, just go ahead and take it and see what it's like”. I got insanely lucky on my test though because the topics I didn't know very well were hardly on my exam at all.

I studied for AUD while waiting for my FAR grade under the assumption that I had for sure failed FAR, so I actually DID go through all the Becker AUD MC twice to make sure I had it down, because I wanted to make sure I passed at least one of the 2 tests. I still only put in about 65 hours for AUD though because I was able to fly through the MC due to the fact that I was familiar with the AUD material since I work in auditing about half the year.

I'm WAY behind on my REG studying now and don't feel confident AT ALL for that test. The other half of my year is spent on tax preparing so I'm hoping some of that knowledge can help carry me, but I'm not confident in the slightest. I've only plugged about 40 hours on REG so far and I take that test in 11 days. I'm trying to get the business law part down by this weekend then just plug away at the tax stuff next week. Mercifully, busy season ends on the 15th so I'll be able to study a solid 25+ hours the 3 days before I take the test, but I'm not a big fan of “cramming” so I'm not very comfortable with this strategy.

I hope it all works out but I'm not very optimistic. If it doesn't….oh well, it wouldn't be the end of the world to take REG again.

    FAR: 81 (1/20) AUD: 88 (2/27) REG: 91 (4/19) BEC: 75 (5/20)
