Just got back from REG. I used CPAExcel to prepare and supplemented with Wiley’s online testbank (probably put in about 120-130 hours). CPAExcel prepared me very well for the MCQ (thanks for the recommendation kandisjoy!). There was maybe only a couple of questions per testlest that I wasn’t 100% on. The SIMS on the other hand were a completely different story. I felt comfortable on 3 of the SIMs. One of them was a research which I am pretty sure I got but not completely. When I took Audit I was able to find the answer word for word however for REG it was a little trickier. Of the remaining 3 SIMs, 2 of them I think maybe I got half of them right and the last SIM (which I am hoping was a pretest) I was just straight up guessing. I went through all of my CPAExcel material almost twice and this particular topic was not in there so I’m hoping that one will be thrown out. Overall, I’m a little frustrated as I was hoping to walk out of the test just knowing I passed, however due to the SIMS it could go either way. Feel free to ask any questions. On to BEC!

i felt the same way when i walked out and got slammed with a 69!! i could swear the one sim that i killed wasnt the one graded lol and the others were give and take on each.

i wish you all the luck, i'm retaking again in jan, but this time i know what i did wrong and i remembered the issues i had so i hope i wont have the same result again.

Thanks hopeful_cpa. Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if I failed. I think its just kind of luck of the draw with these exams. How did you feel you did on the MCQ? What review program did you use?

i felt pretty good on the mcq for the most part… i know i messed up on some of the material that i knew for sure, but thats my mistake of really not sleeping the night prior and taking an exam first thing in the morning when i know i'm not a morning person… but thats neither here nor there anymore…

i used wiley and rogers, i felt the material was covered pretty well… but what irritates me is that the % of topics tested are never historically what the exam preps tell us they are, i barely got tax and i got a whole lot of b-law… i guess thats another mistake on my part for actually believing them.

@hopeful – I took audit today and felt the same way about the %. There seemed to be some pretty important topics that I didn't get a single question on. Instead it seemed like 75% of my questions were about one thing. How annoying.

@argonaut & hopeful_CPA, how were your MCQ testlets? Mine didn't seem to get harder at all and most questions were no more than 3 sentences long. Is that normal for REG?

    FAR 88 (07/15/11)
    BEC 83 (08/31/11)
    AUD 81 (10/15/11)
    REG 83 (11/26/11)

    Used NIU Correspondence CPA Review

I took REG yesterday too. I felt awful like hopeful_CPA because I knew the answers for a couple of them but just messed it up . The MCQ were definitely 50% business law / 50% Tax. Didn't feel good about simulations..need better time manangement.

@ KasiaS – I could tell that the 2nd and 3rd testlets got more difficult as the questions got wordier and there were more calculations involved. I got a little nervous on the 3rd testlet as at first it didn't seem like it was a difficult testlet but as I progressed through there were some more difficult calculations and longer questions.

@ mmen – I am in the same boat. I made the mistake of looking up some questions that I was unsure of after the test. 1 of them I got right, the second I had the right answer but changed it during the exam after second guessing myself (son of a !!!) and the third I made a careless error in my thought process and now realize I chose the wrong answer.
