    Hi all,

I have been reading this website for a couple of months now since I needed some help with FAR and felt frustated. Well, I finally took it today and wanted to share my experience.

The mcs weren’t bad BUT the SIMS were brutal. I came out of the testing center in shock! I am freaking out..now I have to wait until March 8th to see the end results…

    FAR - 77 (Feb 2012)
    REG - 88 (Aug 2011)
    AUD - 79 (Nov 2011)
    BEC - 80 (May 2012)

@hilly…I think that the key to these exams is remaining calm..While taking FAR yesterday I entered into panic mode starting with question #1.lol.. Just remember that you have 90 questions, 15-20 of those are pretest and that many people taking the exam are getting equal, if not harder questions which kind of counterbalances the equation. If you're unsure about something, just guess. You're gonna encounter 5-6 sentence questions that you will have no clue on, just guess. Breathe, breathe, breathe…IMO the Sims are more doable than the MCQs because they're actually accounting. You can do it hilly!!!!!!!!! I wish you the best!

I know this sounds like a broken record but I took FAR this morning and had the exact same experience. MCQ's were fine but I got killed on the Sims. Ran out of time as well. Coming out of it I was crushed. More studying would not have helped the situation. I firmly believe that you can do all the practice sims but still get caught with you pants down on the exam. I feel a migraine coming on….

I had the same experience with the SIMs yesterday… the MCQ's were manageable and I think I went from Medium/Difficult/Medium.

Does anyone know if they would throw out some of the Sims if a disproportionate amount of people got them wrong?

It can't be coincidence that 9 out of 10 candidates thought the Sims were too long and hard for the time provided… I left an hour and 20 mins for the SIMs and was just plugging stuff at the end also.

I'm taking FAR tomorrow and am a little scared now… I haven't looked at any SIMs and have been focusing on MCQs. For those of you who have taken the exam, do you suggest I work through a couple SIMS, or just continue with MCQs?

    BEC 8/31/11 80
    AUD 10/14/11 89
    REG 11/30/11 63, 1/14/12 72
    FAR 2/29/12

Just wanted to chime in that I felt the same way about the sims today. One was incredibly easy, most were long and kind of iffy, and on two of them I was like “lol idk” on almost all of it. And the mcqs went medium-hard-medium for me as well.

Ah well. It was an experience, at least.

So I have just a little over a month until I sit for FAR, how should I gear up my study approach for the Sims? Literally just memorizing J.E's?

    FAR 4/9/12- PASSED
    BEC 7/13/12- PASSED
    AUD 8/16/12- Ughhh 71, Rematch: 90!!!
    REG-12/6/12 PASSED

    USC MAcc- Fight on!

They say good things come to those who wait, but only those things that are left by those who hustle.

mgoloubenko: The issue with the sims that I faced was mainly the time pressure, which is why I said that more studying wouldn't help. Just couldn't get it all done. My advice is to keep practicing the MCQ's so that you can have more time for the sims. Do the best you can, try to remain calm, and power through it!

Good luck to all taking FAR today! Feel glad that you won't get yesterday's test!

I just took FAR this morning and (surprisingly) I wasn't overwhelmed. No tricks, no surprises. Still hard as heck. I used Yaeger Cram and Gleim.

I wouldn't say just memorizing journal entries is the trick for the sims. I just took FAR and I think only two of my sims required journal entries.
