To anyone who has passed/taken FAR… I'm a bit concerned.

So I went through all 9 chapters of FAR with Becker, and began going though it again for the second time yesterday. I got through FAR 1 pretty easily, but once FAR 2 rolled around, I started feeling very discouraged. I feel like I forgot a good chunk of the material, when going thru the MCQs I found myself getting between 50-60% correct.

Has this been a recurring problem for anyone else? I take FAR one week from tomorrow and have been rigorously getting through the material the past few weeks. Any suggestions to help better prepare? I’ve been writing notes on general topics as well as things that I’m a bit weak on.

    Thanks everyone

I ended up having to go through Becker three times because I had so much trouble retaining the material. If I had used the progress quizzes feature earlier in the game, I might have saved myself some time and effort. My recommendation is that after you complete a chapter, you go back and do a short review of the highlights of all previous chapters, so that you keep previously reviewed material fresh. One way to do this is through progress quizzes, another way is by skimming your notes. Good luck!

I went through the same issue and have spent the last 3 weeks reviewing/”relearning” most of it. I have found writing my own notes or re-writing the NINJA notes helped. There were a few topics that I was really struggling with, so I used the examples in the text to work myself through the problem so that I could complete it correctly without stressing over trying to remember what was included/excluded, etc. That also seemed to help. Good luck with everything over the next week.

@mdrosenfeld: just keep doing MC and understanding right from wrong answers. hopefully by now you have made copious notes about the lectures. review lecture notes, and keep doing MC and understand fully why answers are right, and why answers are wrong. don't stress, relax, look at the big picture, and know that if you have mastered the materials you are practicing, there is a good chance you will do well. kick a$$!!!

I suggest to everyone as they are studying and going through the material to do a few review tests. For Becker, I try to do one or two progress tests at least every other day. I find that it helps me refresh up on some concepts. It also allows me to see which concepts I forgot and I can go back to review the material.

For exams like FAR, you can't study one chapter and come back to it 4 weeks latter. You have to constantly review. Hope my suggestion helps

What seems to be working for me is when I go through the MCQs (using the Wiley books) I do a page of them at a time. I will mark ones that I had to think about or work hard to come up with a good answer for. You have to be honest with yourself on this one. 🙂 When I go to check my answers, I re-write the correct answers and write why the incorrect answers were incorrect. This gives you tons of little one or two liner facts that you can easily pick up your notebook and read at any given moment. Any time you have a few minutes here or there, just review. I failed all 4 exams using Becker then switched to Yaeger. Like I said, it seems to be working for me.

I second T-Rex's advice. Progress tests are a HUGE help in FAR!

    FAR 07/27/11 - 87
    AUD 10/01/11 - 85
    BEC 11/15/11 - 87
    REG 01/03/12 - 92

I also read the book 3 times for FAR and did MCQs twice. flashcards helped me also.

Well as many mentioned I read the becker book 2 times front and back. my second time around I wrote notes on key issues. 2 days before the exam I read my notes on key issues. I also worked around 50% of the problems during the period throughout. Its amazing how much I knew on game day even though I did not feel like I knew that much. FAR gave me the most self doubt but it all turned out OK with a pass.

I have a question. I did a practice final exam last nite and freaked out on the first testlet! It was awful, it was like I forgot everything and what I did remember wasn't working out! However, by the time I got to the sims, I did pretty well. If I continuously work progress tests next week (Becker) and do another final exam, do you think I will be ok? I've worked the MCQ's at least twice, some 3 times throughout but I haven't done any progress tests. I also still have the cram/final review tomorrow.

you need to work the progress test. the final exam are a lot harder than what you will see on exam. the progress test will tell you wheat sections you are weak in. That way you can focus on those section as well as keep the other sections fresh in your head. FAR is a BEAST and you just never know what they will ask you. I walked in there READY and left with my tail in between my legs and that was my first exam. thank god himself I squeaked away with a 76 and I pray I never have to see that exam again!

    FAR 76
    REG 76(2x)
    BEC FAILED (2x)
    AUD FAILED (2x)

Thanks for the help! After reading the posts, I thought I'd better hit the progress tests. I just needed to vent and wanted confirmation as to where I needed to go. I pray God will take you through the rest with passing grades!
