Do you any of you guys just feel SO tired after you get home from work that it is extremely difficult to study?

Lately, around 8:00, I just have to take a nap because I cannot even study. But this is messing up my sleeping schedule. I always get around 7-7.5 hours of sleep a night.. I have an almost 2 hour commute a day.

I try to drink pop around then, but I don’t feel a difference.

I just want to study but I’m SO TIRED!!!

I don’t know how you moms and those working 10+ hours a day do this …

I try not to eat a big dinner. Then buckle down for only 2-2.5 hrs, never more. I do the early study time for an hr too and an hr at lunch. I work fulltime in public accounting.

It's much more dififcult for me on the weekends…. one weekend I ate Taco Bell(first time in months as I try not to eat out too much) and within 11 MCQ I passed out for three hours. My least productive weekend so far!

On the other hand I drank coffee one night, stayed wide awake for studying,,,, only to be staring at the ceiling until past midnight…. Guess you have to find what works with you

Have you tired studying at a cafe? I do that everyday because there's nothing else to do when I'm there, it forces me to study even if I'm tired. The one I go to has turned into a study hall, its nice to see other people around me study. Studying at home has never been productive for me, there's so much to do aside from studying.

I go to our public library sometimes which helps. I always figured that going to a cafe might be loud.. I just really wish I had a college library near me haha… I hate how my library closes at 9 ya know?

I think I just need to get some willpower and not take a nap at 8 PM

You need to drink some hardcore caffeine. Or do you like tea? I found this new kind of tea that gives you energy, helps with focus, and you just feel overall calm and it allows you to sleep fine if you take it before 8om. You can get it online for cheap at:

@jenuno01 I was checking out this thread because I too get tired after work. I don't drink coffee at all, not a fan of the flavor (call me crazy) but I LOVE tea and drink it everyday and sometimes at night. I went ahead and ordered that energy tea, I've never heard of it before. Usually I'll go for black tea which has the highest dose of caffeine (compared to white or green tea) but this looks like it will work even better. Thanks!

Good! I hope you like it! I've used it for a few weeks now and really like it. I wish I had discovered it while I was studying. I like mixing tea flavors, so sometimes I throw in a green tea in there too. I've only tried the Vanilla Spice kind, although the Raspberry sounds good too.

How long have you been studying for the exams? If this is fairly new to you, you'll adapt to it. It's a shock to the system for a while.

I don't know how you guys do it. I'm exhausted after work. Kudos to those with kids as well.

@mla…. ive been studying since August, just took my first test (FAR) last weekend. I don't feel motivated to go to the library after work because it gets dark so early now and I just want to hang out at home…

Took a nap from 8-830 tonight. It seriously gives me 4 more hours of study time.. but now that I want to start wrapping it up to go to bed, I am wide awake! Arg!

I rarely attempt to study after work. I'm up at 4:30 every morning. The house is quiet, no one is screaming “Mom/Honey, where is (insert item sitting in front of their face), and I can focus better. I used to think I was a night owl, but I have found that mornings are much more productive for me. I also hate the taste of coffee (Sorry Sandra!!) and I can't drink tea (drinking too much will deplete your iron) so I'm all about Coca-Cola! I should own stock it in!

I wake up at 6:30 every morning for work… one time I set my alarm for 5:45 so study in the morning, and I promply went right back to sleep.

I wish I could be a morning person. My life would be so much easier.

I have a 3 month old baby. My husband is in charge of cleaning the bottles every night and I am charge of the night shift feedings. I watch the videos while I lay down and put my little one to sleep and as soon as her deep asleep (which takes a while), I read my book and do my homework. It’s true, if you’re new to this set up, it takes a while to get used to it and then it will become your second nature. I was pregnant and working full time + OT (on tax season) when I passed both FAR and AUD. I just try to think that it will soon be over and when I start to feel down, I read the thread here of the things CPA alumnis here do after they passed, and I am thinking someday I will do that myself but with a thicker wallet. 😛

It’s really tough and you need to just take it. Commit at least an 2 hrs a day to study and all weekend to study.

One of the CPA here at work always tell me, “there is always a correlation how you suffer you though this process and how you pass.” So in short, if you’re not suffering enough, you’re not studying enough.

“So in short, if you’re not suffering enough, you’re not studying enough” I agree! Something has to be given up. I learned this the hard way. It's sad I am so used to the study life now….. but soon it will be over for all of us. Short term sacrifices, long term benefits.
