Tips for focus and concentration?

I’ve been having a really hard time focusing and concentrating on my studies. I dedicate the time to it, but when I sit down, my mind is everywhere else, but on the material.

I recently took a break from studying, so it’s not like a break would help. Actually, I think it’s making it harder to get started again.

Any tips to help me focus and concentrate would be MUCH appreciated!

Whenever I catch myself dozing off I just tell myself this:

Embrace the misery, this is your life now, and if you don't then you are just making it harder on yourself later.

Take your medicine(studying) now, or take it later. But the fact is you'll have to take it sooner or later 🙂

    Good Luck!

I also have a hard time concentrating. This why I had to find the right place to study, the library is best for me. My mind still wanders but the more oftern I study the less it happens. I guess my brain got used to sitting down for that little bit of time to focus. Longs breaks are not good! I miss one day…. turns into two….week….. I am sure you are all familiar. Good luck, you have to find what really works for you.

Print out a list of reasons why you're taking the exam and read it when you can't concentrate.

I wrote myself words of encouragement on my whiteboard, lol. Try to find a way that makes you want to do it (ok, hate it less), maybe study in short intervals vs. hours at a time. Or the place could be huge, I hate the idea of going to a library, but it works for others. But I must say the hour I spent on my lunch break at work was often much more productive then the 2-3 hours at home, just because at work what else did I have to do? At home there were so many distractions. It probably also helped that at work my laptop wasn't connected to the internet. That is my biggest downfall…I look for any distraction and often would close Becker to check email/FB.

AND I'm going to say be encouraged by the fact that you are taking what will likely be the hardest section first. I was really glad I started with AUD because when I got into FAR I wanted to quit. I kept thinking I felt sorry for people that start with FAR because you probably think all 4 sections will be that bad. But it will be nice to get that one out of the way!

At the suggestion of others, I tried Rhodiola (with my doctor's permission).

How much of it is placebo effect and how much of it is real, I don't know. But since starting, I've been tired but seem to have found a decent amount more concentration and energy. Focus seems improved a little also.

As for the rest, just make it a job. Schedule it, know in advance when you will be studying and then execute.

google the pomodoro method (no this isn't a sales pitch, its just you'll find a better explanation than what I can type). Basically its a schedule……study 25 min, break for 5, etc.

Very manageable and now that I am done with the exam its what I use for housework, yardwork, etc.

This will probably be frowned upon- but adderall is magical. I got an Rx for it easily enough just telling my Dr. what I wanted it for. I am doing study/MBA work 8 hours a day- about 4 hours in I get too foggy otherwise.

I got all the info on Pomodoro and I NEED to start doing it. I blew off studying most of last week and today wasn't any better. My time is literally money because we're paying through the nose to have my kid in preschool so I can study.
