I know kasiaS used the pomodoro technique to study. Anyone else having studying tricks to efficiently study?

P.s. kasiaS do you actually do the 25 min rule when you’re solving mc questions? It would feel weird to solve like 10-15 questions and then take a break..I would think one would feel fatigued during the exam where timeis is an issue?

You know, I don't normally buy into stuff like this, but I think this actually sounds pretty interesting. I think it could definitely be useful to people who need a little help structuring their study time and dealing with time constraint driven anxiety. Now, the IDGAS technique, on the other hand…I've been practicing that technique for a loooong time haha.

@Peanut, a friend from college shared this with me and I decided to give it a shot since it didn't cost me a cent. I think it's great for people who have a million things to get done in a limited time. I'm one of those and this is great at eliminating mental distractions. Especially when you write down the one tangent thought that keeps pestering you as you try to work.

@CPAer, my job is highly task-based so this technique is excellent for me. I use it constantly and am much more efficient and accurate when using it.

You'd be surprised how much you get done in 25 minutes when you elimitate the mental distractions. A dumb thought like “I need to call…” can throw your mojo off, and if you use the technique, you make a tick mark, write it down and the thought doesn't bug you again because you've acknowledged it.

As for the CPA studies, the only adjustment I made was when I was listening to my lectures. Each lecture was broken up into 4 45-minute mp3s for a total of 3 hours. When listening to the lectures, I'd give my full undivided attention for the 45 minutes and take a 10-15 minute break before hitting the next 45-minute segment. OTherwise, when I was re-reading and doing MCQs, I stuck with the 25 minutes. At times, depending on my mood, I would set 20-30 questions for the 25minute slot.

I feel like I got a lot more quality study in this way (focus shifted to quality of study rather than total hours spent studying) and I was still able to keep at least some of my social life alive and well during the last 6 months – although I did cut back.

I just found a free android app called Pomodoro Time Manager and it lets you adjust the settings for the duration for the pomodora from 20 minutes to 60 minutes in 5 min increments and you can also adjust the break time as well from 5 to 30 minutes.

    Interesting…

I'm going to shoot for 20-30, as mentioned by KasiaS, questions for each pomodoro. My only fear is that during test time my body will be used to only solving 20 questions and i'll end up with mental fatigue haha..

I'm such a control freak, how have I never heard of this technique before? I am all about it now. I find myself wanting to surf the web (A71) or distract myself in some other way, but when I to this technique I'm much more alert and focused knowing that soon enough I will have a brief 5 minute break… Really liking this so far. I haven't done any of the tick-marks mentioned? I'll have to look into that. But the timer 25/5 is working great!

@Peanut, the tick marks I mentioned are the apostrophies you're supposed to note for every interruption you experience during a pomodoro. I'm so glad that you like this technique!

@Sherrid, I just tried to download and it worked fine for me. Maybe you have a pop up blocker on or something of that sort?

ok, I'm sold on Pomodora. I managed to get through reviewing all my notes for a module today, working 169 mcq's for that module, and doing two 25 q review testlets over all modules . All this while finishing up year end at work today (granted I had completed most of year end work yesterday) and then working on it some more over the last three hours this evening!

    thats awesome bnrhilton!

How many pomodoro's did all of those equal up to?

Isn't there a “limit” of pomodoro's one should do per day (besides after the 4 pomodoro's = 30 min break)? i remember reading that somewhere in the text, please correct me if im wrong.
