Test Bank Suggestion

Hi, all. I am using Becker for FAR right now, and I would like to add a supplemental test bank for more practice. I previously used Wiley test bank for my AUD but wasn’t impressed. It was too time consuming and overly complicating. I found it wasn’t efficient to allocate too much time on those wordy questions. (***just my personal opinion***) I like the difficulty and depth of the questions from Becker, and I would like to find a test bank similar… Any suggestions will be appreciated.

@Convertible – Be careful avoiding all of the wordy questions. A lot of the time you just need to isolate a couple of key words to come up with the answer. Your exam is going to have a lot of those types of questions. You may want to get the practice.

I would highly recommend sticking it out with Wiley. Only use study mode and study exactly what you want to. Its really easy.

If you just dont like Wiley, I've heard a number of people suggest Gleim. I've also heard these questions are generally tougher.

I am using Wiley software to supplement Becker and so far I like it a lot. @Mini what was your strategy with Wiley? Did you do the MCQs in between Becker's or did you do all Becker's then Wiley's? Just curious thanks!

@Mini. Thanks for the suggestion. Wiley is just not my cup of tea. :-). When I studied for AUD, I spent few days on Wiley and didn't make much progress 'cause they were very time consuming. So I decided to stick to my Becker and reveiw the materials instead of trying to solve those questions from the test bank. I am glad I made that decision, and I personally felt the days I spent on Wiley didn't help me at all passing the exam. But this time I feel I need some extra practice for my FAR, so I am looking for anything other than Wiley…:-). Just my personal preference. Thanks for suggesting Gleim, I will check out their test bank after this. 🙂

You found that they were too wordy?

Most of them are previous exam questions.

@jenuno – Any time I actually had a chance to sit down and study at home, I would only study the Becker materials. I used Wiley a lot, but only as a supplement. I would use Wiley at work (shame on me), in the car (shame on me again), and in bed when my wife went to sleep (shame on me some more). I would do sets of 20 questions. For some reason that was a good number for me. I probably ended up doing about 30 sets of 20 questions for each section. I kept my Becker study schedule very consistent and only used Wiley when I was away from my home study materials. Wiley lets you pick the subtopics from each section that you want to study, so as I made my way through the Becker materials I would just end up checking more topics in the Wiley software since I had already been through it once in Becker.

Yes Jeff. The AUD exam I had is more similar to Becker's questions than Wiley's. I had long questions from BEC which are more like calculation questions, but not from AUD.

@CPA-Convertible, I agree with you. I'm a huge advocate for Wiley–I think you should give it a shot for FAR. That being said, I wasn't necessarily a fan of Wiley for AUD. I should have stuck with Becker, but instead I bounced around, confusing my little brain and ultimately failing AUD… I'll have a different plan of attack next time. Try it for FAR, I think you'll like it better.

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

I supplemented with Gleim test bank and I was very happy with it. The questions were fair representations of what I saw on the exam and the progress reports were hugely useful in identifying my weak areas. It's the only test bank I've used so I can't really compare it to any of the others out there.

*one caveat is that Gleim is not Mac compatible unless you have the parallel software that allows you to run Windows.

@peanut. Thanks for the advice. Besides, it's like only $79 right? I might give it a shot. I do like the formats (mini-topic) of the test bank though. Like Mini said, you can pick the topic and study whenever you had time. Here is my personal experience with AUD and BEC: I used Becker review for both. I added Wiley test bank for AUD and Yeager CRAM for BEC. At the end, I gave up both Wiley test bank and Yeager CRAM 'cause running out of time to study…so I focused more on the concepts from Becker's book…but for FAR, I seriously think I need extra help.

No problem, I believe Gleim has a free demo to download so maybe just give that a shot before you shell out any cash. Worse case you uninstall if you don't like it.

The AUD questions for Wiley are too wordy compared to the exam? Really? I'm using Wiley for AUD and I don't think they're too wordy. I hope the exam is easier then lol

I passed two sections so far by pounding on MCQ's until I got sick of them. One advantage is you start to notice how the questions can trick you, so when you see the real exam questions, you can breeze through them. Another is you see patterns – you notice three have something in common and the 4th doesn't have it, so it must be the correct answer.

Remember, when you do the MCQ's – make sure you realize why the answer is correct and why the others are not. If you do not discipline yourself in this area, you will just memorize Wiley and bomb the real thing.
