Switching Study Methods – Perhaps Unnecessarily. . .

So – I’ve been using Becker and I’ve studied using the “Becker Method” of watching the lectures, and doing the MCQ and SIMS, and reviewing before moving onto the next chapter. However, after learning about the NINJA Method, It made a lot of sense to me. So, I have started to implement the NINJA Method for FAR and am currently watching all of the lecture videos first, and will take “Intense Notes” next, etc.

However, I’m wondering if this is a good idea – since I’ve already passed BEC and AUD using the other method. Anybody have a similar experience? How did it work out for you? I’m still using Becker, but have added the Ninja Audio.

    Thanks!

Both are good methods, but why change something that's already working?

Becker, Wiley Test Bank, and Ninja 10 Point Combo!

I switch up my methods based on the amount of time I have. I think the NINJA method is great for efficiency. If you need to get through the material and retain as much as possible right before exam day. It's perfect for retakes too.

But if I have a lot of time, like I do now with REG, I will combine methods.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (with scores in the 80's on your first attempts… you may not want to stray)

i passed FAR using the “Becker” method

switched it up & used the “NINJA” method for BEC after failing AUD a number of times

I'm going to use the NINJA method for my next AUD retake because nothing else has worked yet

Really depends on your situation, learning style, how much time you have to study, etc

    FAR - 1/26/2012 - PASSED (78, but Lost credit), re-do 11/27/2013 - PASSED (87)!
    AUD - EPIC FAIL, 71, 69; 68; 5/25/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    REG - 10/1/2012 - 72; 7/1/2013 - 73 UGH, 10/1/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    BEC - 2/28/2013 - PASSED (82)!

Used Becker self-study materials (just this for FAR original & REG #1), WileyTestBank, NINJA notes/audio, and Roger cram course for AUD #5, REG #3 & FAR reboot. CPA!

Haha – yeah, highlighting stuff totally doesn't help with anything except give you something to do while you're listening to the boring lectures. I have found that handwriting notes that I've taken in the book (while listening to the lectures) helps me to remember more. I've never highlighted anything in my book – I take notes. I'm planning on taking notes based on the lectures, and rewriting them twice and then moving onto the MCQs and Sims. I'm getting concerned about time – because I want to have at least a week for a final review – but I guess I'l just study more. : ) I should have around 180 hours of study time when everything is said and done.

In the previous sections I've taken, the material doesn't really “click” until I do the MCQ's. I'm hoping that utilizing the NINJA method will help the material to make more sense conceptually before I start in on the MCQ.

I'm 3 for 3 on the first try using the Becker method.. I'm definitely sticking with what works for me! Plus I can't imagine sitting through all the lectures first – I need those MCQ's to break things up!
