Supplementing Intermediate accounting text for SIMS studying

Anyone else using their intermediate accounting textbook problems and exercises to study for SIMS? I keep hearing how much harder the SIMS are than in the review courses and I remembered that there are a ton of AICPA adapted problems and exercises that look like some of the hardest SIMS in my text.

I really don’t want to waste time but some topics I would really freak out with if I got asked a SIMS question on so I am hoping to solidify some of my weaker areas by doing some by hand. Thoughts?

Good idea. My Wiley Intermediate accounting textbook (Kieso) even has simulated simulations 🙂

They call them KWW simulations after the names of the authors.

I'm in the same frame of mind. I want to know everything that is possibly on the test.

Some here say you can't know all the possible simulations so don't bother preparing. Not knowing everything to me though is a reason to prepare even harder.

Though preparing for the CMA test, I practiced over 40 essays, at least twice. It paid off because I was writing on the exam like a demon.

    BA Mathematics, UC Berkeley
Certificates in CPA and EA preparation, College of San Mateo
    CMA I 420, II 470
    FAR 91, AUD Feb 2015 (Gleim self-study)

Do some sims, but don't spend a great amount of time on them. Trust the folks who have actually seen the exam already. It's worth it to see the types of formats you might run into but is highly unlikely to prepare you for the content.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

I agree with mla1169. Spending a lot of time with your intermediate book is not going to help you on sims. Get used to the format and do some practice ones but the sims are impossible to study for directly. Plus your intermediate book is going to be way more detailed/advanced than what you'll need to know on FAR sims.

    Good advice, thanks guys 🙂

I figure I'll work on some of the subjects that I'm having trouble remembering like writing out a cash flow statement from the book but besides that I'll stick to Becker.
