I have been studying for FAR since I failed with narrow margin last Nov, but every time I go through the material I feel like I somehow forgot so much..what i knew before..I have Beckers 2012, and recently bought Wiley test bank..and I was doing cpareview for free MCQs but I am overwhelmed with the study material I have. I am confused…which one to do/ focus..may be its too many materials? I have almost 4 weeks before the test…

suggestions appreciated..thanks and good luck to everyone..

It seems to me that this is a common problem. People go crazy with the study materials and end up overwhelmed. While it may be true that no single source covers 100% of the exam, any one of them alone should be sufficient to pass. It's really more a matter of which one presents the material in a way that coincides with your learning style.

My advice, choose one or two you feel you get the most out of, and do a final broad overview with just those.

    FAR - 79 - 07/2012
    AUD - 65, 78 - 11/2012
    BEC - 76 - 11/2012
    REG - 78 - 01/2013
    ETH - 98 - 01/2013

    Material: Wiley books

@cpa2012 Do you have the full Becker online/ self study course? I take FAR on January 28th. This will be my third attempt at FAR and I have to pass or I will lose AUD.

One thing I am doing different this time versus the times before is more utlization of the progress tests. I go through two lectures of Becker, all MC and SIMS for those related chapters. Then before I start another chapter I will take a progress test. I have completed all 10 chapters of Becker and am getting ready this weekend to do a 100 MC progress test. I have found that there are some of the same questions in the progress tests as well as new one's. Afterh that, I am going to work all MC's and SIMS again and maybe again.

I would also recommend that you invest in some audio materials to supplement you exam preparation. Whether it is purchasing the NINJA audio (which I am listening to write now) or buying a voice recorder and making your own audio(which I have done as well). Listen to this over and over and over!! I have my Becker note cards and mnemonics recorded on my voice recorder. The NINJA audio isn't structured to the Becker chapters but IT DOES reinforce what I have learned in Becker!!

You can't go wrong with supplementing with all the MC's from whatever sources. However, since your exam is getting close, I would stick with the method you have been with and don't try to change at this point. I say this because you have the course study materials as a reference to fall back on if a topic is troubling you. Supplement don't replace.

With the volumonus information in FAR it is necessary to keep the information fresh at all times. These two techniques are very valuable in doing this!

Repetition is the key to retaining this material. Keep going over the material again and again. MC's until you puke. Clean it up and do more.

    Good luck on your exam!!

I hear the feeling! My strategy has been to ensure I cycle through the information regularly by skimming sessions of the book/doing flashcards for sessions I haven't touched in awhile. I gave myself 3 weeks for a “final review”, and I'm discovering that I need to do a little refresher on the older stuff (probably F1-F2), just so I see it again. I know the knowledge is buried somewhere deep in my brain, but I need to awaken it from its hibernation, and I think the “cycling” helps.
