    Hi hopeful_cpa

How much time have you put into it so far? Maybe it will only take a couple of weeks to get through the second half?

Or I have read some posts of different cramming methods and one on how to pass in 20 days. Stay focused until test day, you can do this!

I've been with this for more than 1 month (4 hrs every day)..and it sucks when you realize you will not know it all…:'(…Retail Dollar Value LIFO just killed me…lol….as well as subsequent events….I have 3 weeks left and I don't know what to do…:'(

I'm taking FAR on the 27th (exactly 3 weeks to the day)! I'll break the 100hr study mark tomorrow, and I have about another week's work to finish working through the Yaeger recommended MCQs. After I finish that, I'm going to spend a week with the cram, and then the final week I'll spend reviewing specific issues and taking practice exams and wrapping things up. I've been spending a little over 20hrs/week reviewing, so cumulatively I'm looking at about 160hrs from start to finish going into this exam.

It's been a rollercoaster ride for sure up until this point. Some of the sections seem overwhelming; none of the material is all that new to me, but it's incredibly frustrating looking at questions that you SHOULD know how to work but can't seem to recall the method behind it. I just finished my BS in Acctg in December, so I'm really baffled by how much I've forgotten in such a short period of time!! In contrast, some of the material feels really smooth. You know that feeling when you're reading a question and you know the “trick” to solving it before the question is even asked? Yep, that feeling. Awesome.

Considering how much material there is on FAR, I doubt anyone goes into it feeling good about EVERYTHING. Surely we all have our rough spots, but you try to minimize that as much as possible to give yourself the best chance of success.

Anyway, despite the frustrations and overwhelming amount of material, we just need to press on. The exam isn't getting any easier, and I'm certainly not getting any younger or prettier, so let's buckle down for these last 3 weeks and hammer it out! 🙂

FAR is incredibly overwhelming. I studied for 4 months and still didn't feel as prepared as I felt I needed to be. My best advice would be to make sure you know a little about everything instead of nailing down every little detail about some topics at the expense of not reviewing main details of other sections.

CPATerminator mentioned Dollar Value LIFO. I would make sure you have a pretty solid understanding of LIFO and FIFO, but don't spend a whole lot of time on learning all the steps to calculate Dollar Value. Not to say it won't be on your test, but if it is I bet it would just be 1 or 2 MCQ's.

I made a list of Journal Entries and Formulas while I was studying, and reviewed those heavily during my final review. I am positive that's what made a difference in a pass vs. fail for me. I personally don't think it's worthwhile to spend a lot of time working MCQ's during the final review, but definitely good to do while studying.

    apbandj is right.

Don't focus on learning every intricate detail. Learn the major concepts and ideas of each section. That should give you a good chance on many of the MCQ's and the sims. Even the one's that might be a little more detailed, a good grasp of the concepts should let you whittle away at least one or two answers you know are wrong. If you can get half the MCQ's right and get the other half down to a 50/50 guess by eliminating two options, you have a damn good chance of passing.

Passing FAR isn't in the details, it's in the big concepts.

FAR sucks! That is one exam I do not miss. Keep going at the material…eventually it all comes together.
