I was 4 points short of being finished with the CPA exam. Unfortunately, almost doesn’t count.. So here I am preparing for my retake of FAR. I know that looking at it as if I’ve only got to get 4 points instead of 75 is the best way to come up short. I’m shooting for a late July, early August retake. I was really wondering if anyone has ever passed FAR by working JUST MCQs? I’ve started back watching the Becker videos, but I catch myself zoning out and not really picking up on the key concepts. Is this a solid strategy?

The becker lectures are designed to get you a good foundation of the material. The MCQs are designed to reinforce that and also help you learn some of the more specific details. Think of the lectures as clarifying what you read and the MCQs as the polishing agent of your knowledge. Most have pretty in depth explanations if you get it wrong or right on a guess.

I honestly think I learn the most from doing MCQS and taking my own notes. For FAR I made flash cards and would review them on a daily basis. I know this might sound bad, but I never fully pay attention to the lectures lol. I honestly watch them to watch them. I always catch myself thinking about sports, girls etc.. MCQS is the route to success in my opinion. Best of luck and keep grinding.

I personally would advise against watching the Becker videos again, as I don't think it's the most effective use of your time. I would reread each of the chapters (which should already pre-highlighted, since you watched the videos once), take notes on the important topics, and then answer each of the MCQ questions. If you find yourself struggling with a topic, it might be worthwhile to watch a clip from the videos to make sure you're understanding it correctly, but I can't imagine sitting through all 35-40 hours of lecture again. I could barely sit through them the first time.

    Good luck!

I would say you should do practice tests over and over and over again. This will give you a good idea on your weaker areas and your stronger areas. Then you know where to focus your time on hammering down on those sections and subjects.

I also suggest reading why all answers are correct and why every answer is incorrect. This will help you on other questions and possibly questions you get on the test.
