    Hey Guys,

It’s been a long time since I graduated from college. I do have a BSC in Accounting and a general MBA. Now I am almost in my late 20s, and I want to study for the CPA! I live in Atlanta, and I would like to know, 1) if it is possible to still sit for the CPA at this age and 2) I do not have experience in public accounting, and I am recently not working, how feasible is it for me to pursue this goal?

I am really motivated to study for it, but I would like to know that my hardwork will be rewarded.

    Would appreciate the feedback.

    Thank you.

Howdy kaleidascope28…I'm also in Atlanta, and I'm 41. Trust me, you can do it! Let me know if you have any questions as I am more than happy to shell out advice and share my experiences so far. 🙂

@MydnightDarkfyre, yes please would love to hear from you! Any advice is highly appreciated. My big question is since I am not working at all, how much should I study? I was thinking 20 hours, but Nick says I should study more. Maybe 30 hours a week would be enough, or should I study more than that?

@kaleidascope28 – I also started with FAR, and at the time I also was not working. I was terrified of failing and probably gave myself too much time, but I did 25-30 hours a week for 2 months (started in the middle of May and sat for the test on July 9th). I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as ‘overstudying' though, as I was so relieved to see my passing score. Overstudying = only sitting once for that section 🙂

I found that the first time through the Becker book left me more confused than when I started….but honestly, it starts to sink in the second time around. Will you be purchasing a MCQ test bank like Wiley or Ninja? I would also agree with the majority of the people on this site that once you read through the material, hammering the MCQ's like there is no tomorrow is the way to go…

Just a quick update though, I am a slow reader so taking my time to understand a concept is definitely needed!

I just took my first exam in October, I'm 27. It's never too late to sit for this exam, some people on this forum are in their 40's

@MydnightDarkfyre, I was thinking of buying Ninja MCQs, as I have heard good reviews. What do you think? Anybody else's input is highly appreciated too. So, study for FAR with Becker, then MCQ's with Ninja.

So, I think with Nick's advise and yours, I will go for 25-30 hours a week, and see how I do by next week. How was your studying schedule like? Did you study with Becker books+ CDs and Ninja MCQs? I borrowed the books from a friend, which is an online version of Becker, so I don't have additional materials that comes with it. What additional materials do you think I need with Becker books and Ninja MCQs (planning to buy it)?
