Today is my first day back to studying for the CPA and FAR is going to be the one I plan on knocking out first. I have switched to using the Yaeger study materials and the Wiley test bank. I was planning on using Jeff’s NINJA study approach but had a few questions for some you out there that have tried it or put your own spin on it. When first starting out, jeff says to watch all of the lectures first before doing any mcq (besides the ones they walk through with you in the lectures), during this time should I be taking notes as well or just watch the lectures and then go back and re read the text? im worried i might forget alot of what they say and may loose time by possibly having to go back and watch them later. any body else have any good advice that used yaeger that they would like to share? all help is wanted..

good question. I used Yeager for FAR and my exam is Thursday so we shall see how my study methods work!

I went slow initially and listened to all the lectures, stopped the video frequently and wrote down notes, and then did mcq at the end of each chapter. At the end if I needed to I would rewatch the lecture, this time without writing and figuring out the mcq by stopping the video and doing it myself without help.

This was a great teaching method but it did make for a loooong time before the end, and then I reviewed by just rewriting my notes and doing Wiley and Gleim test banks to get the material down for each chapter. Another looong time, and now I am cramming to see what I remember from the other reviews for the exam. This seems to be an evolving process in figuring out what works. If you need to learn the topic, if you have time enough to do it and then review, that all helps by using Yeager. Next time I will try to do more review as I go and not wait until the end. The value of Ninja notes is that you can review the important pieces of all the material by constantly rewriting them.

Best method for me is the watch a lecture by section, read that section, and do its MCQs/SIMs. Then proceed with the next section. After finishing the 2nd section, do a progress test/quiz/random questions from section 1 & 2, review what you got wrong and move on to section 3.

Leave about 2 weeks for final review!!

PS: I use Becker and often supplement it with Wiley testbank.
