Studied for 3 hours and passed FAR. There must be a God.

So last July, I took FAR and got a 73. I studied quite a bit for it, albeit not as much as I probably should, but I’ve always been a good test taker and thought I could make it through it. Needless to say, when I left the testing center I felt like I got loads of questions and sims that for whatever reason I didn’t know and didn’t get asked about all the stuff that I did know. I got a 73.

Fast forward to early January… I took FAR again. This time, I barely studied. I might have studied a grand total of about 3 hours. I went to the testing center and felt like I got tons of questions that I did no and not much I didn’t. I passed with a 77.

Has anybody else had an experience like this where for whatever reason you got everything you knew or everything you didn’t?

Well, congrats to you. But I have to add: GRRRRRRRRR. Not at you personally, just really at myself. I wish I could go into an exam and ace it. I wish I had a bit of your exam prowess in me, because I can't help but remember all the things I have missed because I was studying. If this is your “super-power”, then use it. Now, transfer some of that to me, ok? LOL!

Good luck with your next exam.

I was totally prepared for a BEC fail in this score release because during the holidays I got really sidetracked and completely went off my study plan. I blew off studying so many nights because I was so tired and stressed out!

When I took REG first, I stuck to a very rigid study plan, so I thought that was what I needed to pass. I was ready for a fail with BEC, and completely shocked Saturday when I saw my score of 88. I had to squint to make sure it didn't say 68. I have actually been back to the site a few times to do this again. lol

It was weird because while I studied the other sections a lot, I completely breezed through the finance section. And I felt like I got so many questions on that which is why I was prepared for the fail.

Go figure… I think maybe the writing portion is what saved my butt since I have always been better at writing than math. But I'm also a perfectionist who makes herself go insane with guilt when she doesn't know every single detail. So I'm passing but losing my mind… haha I suppose it's a small sacrifice 😉

Hoping for as much luck with FAR this month!

    REG - 86 (11/22/11)
    BEC - 88 (1/9/12)
    FAR - 79 (2/29/12)
    AUD - 71 (5/7/12) - Got a little lazy. Retake 7/30/12 - 85 on the retake woohoo!

CHRISBROWN, thats incredible! What do you do for work and are you currently or very recently a student? Wondering how you might otherwise be exposed to these materials without directly studying.

Or if you should really go buy a lottery ticket!

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

You guys read his whole post, right? He studied for 3 hours on his retake, not the initial exam.

On a side note, I hope your name is actually chris brown and you are not really a fan of that p.o.s. girlfriend-beating entertainer. Only a low-life thug would ever hit a woman.

@minimorty- My name really is Chris Brown.

@mla1169- I currently work in public accounting and do a lot of work with governmental entities. I started last July and graduated from school a little over a year ago. I took intermediate accounting Fall of 2008 and Spring of 2009 so I'm a few years out of it. A lot of what helped me I think is my work. I had never been exposed to governmental or NFP stuff until I started working and on my first exam got a ton of questions and like 2-3 sims on governmental/NFP. I pretty much bombed all that stuff and still got a 73. This time, I scored stronger in the governmental stuff and moderate in the NFP. I retain stuff really well too so I remembered a ton of what I had studied from July.

@ihorses- You don't have to believe me, but it is the truth.

Lol Cash. Office Space is a great movie. An even better scene is when he is in the conference room talking to the Bobs. Hilarious.

@ChrisBrown – Glad to hear that is your actual name. How many more exams do you have left? Good luck!

I've got three left. I'm taking BEC in a couple weeks and feel really good about it. I'm not to concerned with that or Audit, but REG is absolutely going to destroy me. I can't stand the material and wasn't even close on my first try so I'm going to have to put a lot of hard work in.

    O well
