So I am scheduled for my FAR (first part) on the exam during the 3rd week of Feb. giving me good time to prepare (or I thought)… I am using Becker (self study for this part) and I made it to lecture 4, so I am on a good time line… but today I realized that I don’t remember lecture 2 and 3 as well as I did… also created few flash cards (not really using it though)

How should I remember all the methods and information…. just feeling so down and overwhelmed…

    Any advice would be great…

    Thanks

At the halfway point, review your notecards/notes and do mcq's for those sections to stay fresh.

    B - Passed
    A - Passed
    R - Passed
    F - Passed

I have no idea how Becker works, but if you are doing multiple choice questions – complete your multiple choice questions for lecture 4, and then before you move on to lecture 5, spend a day doing the MCs from 2, 3, and 4, to refresh your memory. As I said, I don't know how Becker works, but the Wiley Test Bank could help you with this…

In my studies, I use the TB along with Wiley Book. I read/take notes on each module in the book and then go to the TB and answer MCs for the module I just completed. Before I move on to the next module, I do MCs for all the modules I've completed so far… Wiley TB options make this very easy and it is a great way to refresh your memory. Good luck!

The brain is a tricky little organ. Our long-term memory is not at the forefront of our thought process, so it is easy to feel like it doesn't exist. For example, I can't tell you what I had for lunch last November 4. However, those long-term memories can be triggered by prompts and brought back to the forefront. To use the same example, if I heard the name of the restaurant I had lunch at last November 4, I would remember that I'd been there and probably what I ate even if I couldn't tell you the exact date. Luckily, the exam provides such prompts in the form of questions.

Basically, your brain can't remember 3 chapters back because there is nothing telling it that it needs to remember that chapter.

In other words, don't panic. Keep pushing through the material until you've seen it all at least once. Then go back and touch on the subjects you struggled with the most. Finally, when you're 1-2 weeks away from your test date, do a broad review of the entire material. You'll be amazed how much you've actually retained.

    AUD - 65, 78 - 11/2012
    BEC - 76 - 11/2012

The key to studying becker is to keep doing progress tests after every chapter, especially for REG and FAR because of the volume of material. Also When you finish a chapter take an hour or two to re glance over the chapters you have already gone through. Just looking at the material once wont really make it stick, so by going back through it every week eventually it will be easier to remember those chapters. Then when you are in your review before the test really hammer out each chapter's MC and sims again.

Thank you… definitely feels good to heard that it happens and I just need to stay calm (for the past half hour i was just freaking out thinking I will never get the 75 to pass)….

I do have the FAR Wiley book so will definitely review that ….

For anyone who is or used Becker…. any tips and guidelines will be highly appreciated….

    @cpatel

I use Becker, make sure you are doing progress tests after every chapter. Do 100 MC or something substantial so you can get a variety from each chapter. Glance over the chapters at the end of the week. Like i said previously, it takes repetition to get the concepts down whether it be doing MCQ or looking at the book. Just keep going over them at the end of every week and the chapter 1 stuff will be just as fresh as the chapter 10 stuff

You should be doing a comprehensive MCQ bank at the end of every chapter in Becker. It will keep you refreshed.

I felt the same as it was my first exam as well. The only thing that kept me going was that I was taking a class and had requirements to finish all MCQ's and SIMS correctly for one chapter each week. I was also taking notes and making flashcards as I went. By chapters 4-5 I was getting frantic because I wasn't remembering the previous chapters either. I have since learned (both through this forum and by making it through the exams) that your first time through you get through everything once, do a progress test if you have time, then move on. There is too much information to continue to remember it all while going through the material. Once you get through all the chapters and go through your review time is when everything starts to gel a bit. You will probably never feel like you have it all down, but the more progress tests and practice tests you do during your final review, the better it will get.

    AUD - 96 (7/17/12)
