    Hey there.

This is my first post – I have one last exam to go – FAR, the beast, as it’s rightly called.

My initial view of FAR was “oh, how hard can it be?! It’s accounting, I should be able to manage.” Of course the material was huge, thus intimidating, but I thought I would stick to the plan of breaking it down to small parts and would be able to do it.

Here I am, three weeks away from my exam, and I’ve not even finished the material once!!! This is very unlike my usual preparation where I ensure to give myself 3 weeks of revision and only practice. So for obvious reasons I’m freaking out.. and I desperately need your help/advice/suggestions…

    My problems –

    1) I haven’t finished the material fully even once

    2) I’m scoring around 60ish in the progress tests/practice

    3) I’m working full time so I have barely 2-3 hours

    4) Finding it real hard to retain the information

    5) EXTREMELY DEMOTIVATED!!!!!!!!!!

Can anyone tell me how I should go about it for the rest of the 3 weeks?

I only can say that you should understand why you make a mistake when you do the MCQs

    This strategy helped me

    AUD
    BEC 81
    FAR 91
    REG 89

Hi all, I'm in a similar situation however I just finished the FAR book. I have the exam scheduled for May 30 th. Right now I need advice/input for a solid final review strategy. I have gone back and forth in what to do but can't decide what materials I should use and how/ when. I feel a ton of anxiety and what to start but I can't get myself to calm down until I have the “right” final review strategy in place.

I basically need a two parts: one is how to review the material and second is MCQs/SIMs. But how to conquer both?

Should I re-read the book at a faster pace or at least fast as possible? I read so slow and try to absorb the material each time maybe overdoing it and could take a long time. I don't necessarily think I'm OCD but I feel so uneasy when material is skipped or I don't read it. However in the book I have my side notes in margins along with the instructors notes. (Becker) Plus there are pass keys summary charts and most importantly examples to walk thru.

After I read the chapter I can do MCQs on that chapter as well to test my knowledge.

I have purchased the flash cards and also printed the outlines for each chapter. Could I just go thru these two items and then do like 100 MCQs for that sections. Or should I be doing all sections for MCQs.

Additionally when I first did the MCQS for each section I began to type/copy paste/screenshots of items I got wrong or didn't understand or ones that provided additional information in a topic. So I have these to review as well.

I want to not waste time and really learn more and more each day. I would like to have reviewed all the material within the next week and then focus on MCQs and flash cards the last several days before the test.

I plan to take a few days off to get myself ready so that should help also.

Please provide your input. I really appreciate it.

    Thanks a lot!

@D C–I would not suggest reading the book again. You need to attack MCQs and SIMS nonstop from here on out. I used the Wiley Test Bank, but any test bank should be good I think. Just start working the MCQ section by section, make notes of your problem areas. Try to go through every question in your test bank at least once and twice for your problem areas.

@needhelpfar, hopefully everything's still going well. F9 and F10 aren't all that bad (at least compared to, like, F5, F6, and F7 – you've got the tough stuff behind you!), and 10 days for the final review is solid. I think that's exactly the amount of time I gave myself. Good luck!

@D C, I would not read the book again. I couldn't. I would occasionally go back and re-read some topics from tricky areas so that they were fresh in my head, but all I did during my final review were the two Becker practice tests, endless amounts of 30-question cumulative progress tests, and the 2007-2013 AICPA released FAR questions. If I missed something, I tried to understand why. The MCQs helped me narrow down what my weak areas were, which was (probably) helpful.
