Snacks/ food/ Kit/ to bring to exam…Other rituals?

Does anyone have any great recommendations for things to bring to the exam? When I wrote REG, I had a small locker I could keep some snacks. I had a slice of pizza, Advil, water and my own ear plugs. I plan on having a sausage egg Mcmuffin before my 8:00am AUD exam. I get shakily when I haven eaten enough, so need a greasy breakfast and will need something else before the exam is finished.

My partner has offered to sleep on another room tomorrow night. He snores and tosses around a lot. Sometimes not getting enough sleep scares me more than the exam itself.

I’d love to hear of your rituals/routines and snacks.

It's the same thing with me and my husband the night before my test. He'd let me sleep alone on our bed so I could get a solid sleep all night.

I like to take a boiled (peeled) egg and bunch of grapes for a quick munch and for easy swallow during my break.

You're the first person I know of who can actually eat greasy food on test day. I have IBS so I can't eat stuff like that. In fact, a Becker teacher told us to avoid Taco Bell and White Castle, so I'm guessing most fast food would be on his blacklist.

I take a protein shake and something with carbs (granola, cookies, crackers).

JLee, have you gotten ADA accommodations for your IBS?

I have IBS and UC, so I applied for ADA accommodations. I get unlimited breaks, in case I have to run to the bathroom.

Before tackling the CPA exam, I took the GMAT twice. For the GMAT, you can take a break whenever you need to, but the clock won't stop. Both times for the GMAT, I had to leave for the bathroom a lot, ran out of time and left 30% of the questions blank. I didn't want this to happen for the CPA, so I applied for accommodations right away.

J Lee I have low blood sugar, so I have to eat a huge meal, otherwise I feel like I have vertigo. Only grease works. My stomach is ok, but I also get paranoid about taking the NYC subway. You never know when a crazy person is going to ruin your day.

Thanks Amor, I don’t feel as guilty now. Tripin, good call on the Pepto. I think I will bring some with me in case of nausea.

Im going to wake up as early as possible tomorrow, so I am tired by night time. I think I will study a bit tomorrow…But cut it all off by 6:00pm, watch a movie or tv until 9:00 or 10:00, then bed.
I also think a half a sleeping pill is key the night before. The kind that doesn’t make you drowsy.

Hmm I guess stomach issues are more common than I think. I also have IBS, but I didn't know they made accommodations. I've never been to the doctor for it, but I know what my triggers are and have to avoid grease and spicy food – especially during potentially high stress situations. I also sign up for 1:30pm exam times because I am not a morning person. The 1st 2 were nice because they were on a Saturday, which allowed me to sleep until 10 am. Each time, I was able to make a good breakfast and relax for a couple of hours before driving to Prometric. My last exam and my one next week are at 1:30, but on weekdays. I have the option of taking the whole day off if I want to. I actually like working for a couple of hours because it takes my mind off of the exam. There's a Chick FilA really close to Prometric. I hit them up for lunch last time and will probably do the same on Monday. As far as what I bring with me – not much. I do bring the pepto, advil, chap stick, and bottled water. On the water – I've read from other people to watch water intake for obvious reasons, but I get bad headaches if I get dehydrated and feel more alert with some cold water during a break. I also always use locker #20 – I used it the first time and considered it a good luck charm. 🙂

Your brain eats fat, so eat scrambled eggs the morning of, and make sure to have ‘intimate time' night before if possible.

I had no clue you could get ADA accommodations for IBS but gas makes up the majority of my problems. Mainly when I burp so much at night I can't sleep. The worst part is when that happens, I have to limit my caffeine. Coffee is a big trigger for me. I'm stuck muddling through the day when I don't get enough sleep. Fortunately, I don't have to run to the bathroom often when I go out (except when I drink too much coffee) but I did get nauseous the 3rd time I took FAR. I still don't know how I kept anything down.

Mine is triggered by stress. Any kind of stress (positive/happy stress, negative stress, test stress,) and I am running to the bathroom. About a year ago, my GI doc prescribed anti depressants for it, and that has helped a lot.

But yeah about the ADA, it was a fairly painless process. Before applying, I was concerned/scared because I really needed the help and I assumed it was hard/rare to get approval. I never requested accommodations in college or hs, so I didn't know what to expect.

All I had to do was ask my doc to write a brief note mentioning my condition and requesting breaks, I filled out the ADA form, and then I just had to wait for NASBA to process it. Anyone considering it should definitely apply.
