Sitting for FAR tomorrow… first section – Need Advice

I have been studying pretty good for about 1 1/2 months using Becker and Wiley. Practice exams yielded 74% and 70% on the MC, and pretty good on the Sims. A lot of the MC that were missed were either stupid errors or the question was extremely misleading. The errors I can handle as I finished the MC with 2 1/2 hours left and the SIMS only took me about 30 minutes to complete so I know I can calm down and check my work, and if I get a couple of really tough, misleading questions on the real exam so be it. From what I’ve heard though, Becker’s final exams are considerably harder than the real thing, but I shall see tomorrow.

What I need is last minute advice here. I’m going to reread the Becker book today and maybe brush up on some concepts I know that I am not 100% on. Any vets have any words of wisdom they can provide? This experience has been mentality draining and I really want to get FAR behind me so I can focus on AUD in January.

    FAR(11/14/11)- 92
    AUD(01/04/12)- 91
    REG(05/30/12)- 93
    BEC(07/21/12)- 88

Here's what I learned from my first section and wish I knew before:

    1) the day before the exam try to get in an overall review/refresh or whatever you've been neglecting during your final review, its time to look past the weaknesses and at the big pic. – and get as much rest as you can

    2) On the day of try not to schedule much, JUST focus on being calm, and anxiety free, and look at outlines or flashcards, save your energy for the exam. Plus I'm usually too jitterey to actually absorb anything

    3) during the exam don't grade yourself or think about the ?'s getting easier or harder – just focus on the question on hand

    4) be sure to Fuel up pre exam so you dont get hungry, but make sure you've drained your bladder and avoid hydrating too much.

    5) After it, screw trying to figure out if you passed failed or regretting your study method, Personally I can never tell, not even regarding subsections – I've learned this from the bad type of score report

And congratulations, you got one under the belt, Enjoy your time away from the books.

    Good luck.

From what you uncovered, you should be prepared for the exam. Just make sure to leave at least an hour for SIMS. So 1 hour per each testlet. Make sure when you were going through the SIMS, you go through by scratch (closed book), which seems like you did that as well. I would try Becker “progress test” as this test shows you your strengths and weaknesses of each area. Run through it and maybe run through the rough areas. Sounds like this will be a first pass for you:) Way to go!

    AUD - Passed:)
    FAR - Passed:)
    REG - Retake TBD
BEC - Missed by 3 points Retake TBD

I think you got great advice here, the only thing I would add is make sure you don't let a tricky question take your head out of the exam. Your mental attitude is just as important as everything you have studied. Be ready for that out of left field question, and take a deep breath, don't waste a bunch of time on it and move on!

    Best of luck

I spent most of my time working mcq's. I would review lectures/books only for problems I could not figure out. I spent only a few hours on sims.
