SIMS with JEs (no entry required)

Lets say for example on a FAR simulation, that you are selecting drop down items for journal entry accounts and there is a line (or lines) where there is no entry required. Do you have to select “no entry” if it is an option? Or could you leave it blank? Especially if the directions do not specify whether to select “no entry”. (it usually says put in a “0” for other types that have no numerical answer)

Also, what if there is no option for “no entry” and you realize that you selected an account when there should not have been an entry? Are you stuck with leaving an unnecessary account filled in with a wrong answer? I have come across this in some of Becker’s SIMS.

Thanks, and any input is appreciated.

I would also like to know this. Can you leave the entry lines blank or do you have to fill them in with “no entry required”. Also, if/when using “no entry required”, do you have to fill in zeroes for the amounts?

If, for example, the directions say to select “no entry” for a specific entry, and there are 4 lines, do you have to select “no entry” for all 4 lines or just one? I guess its better to play it safe and do it for all…

I don't recall any specific instructions. Faced with this situation, I left the extra lines completely blank. I think either choices would be fine.

The test only let me use “no entry required” once and then it disappeared from the list of options.

I guess it may not matter as long as a human is looking at/grading the SIMS. Anybody know how that process works? Are all sims looked at by a human? Or are some of them? How do they decide?

For what it's worth, I had many journal entries in my simulations and I left anything blank as just that, a blank space. I got an 85 so it didn't seem to affect me too much, if at all.

Also, I was able to hit the delete key to erase the account if I changed my mind.

Whether or not to fill in 0, I did just to be on the safe side. You get points for right answers and nothing is taken away for wrong ones, so that was my way of trying to capture as many points as possible.

@accountabergs, all sims are graded by computer. The only part of the entire exam viewed by a human is the BEC writing section, and I think that may only be if you are in the BEC bubble and within a few points +/- of passing.

    FAR (1/15/14)- 92
    AUD (5/05/14)- 94
    BEC (5/28/14)- 85
