Do you allocate yourself another 2 months to prepare for FAR?
I will be taking FAR next week. My first NTS has expired; I need to register (and pay) for another NTS soon. With another busy season ahead of us, I’d like to know how much time to allocate to studying for FAR for a 2nd time if I fail (and at this point I am not feeling comfortable to be frank).
I see 2 pathways of logic here:
1) Even if I fail the exam next week, the material should still be somewhat fresh in my head; that means my 2nd go-around should go a little bit faster. Plus, I wouldn’t need to spend any time watching the video lectures as I’ve heard they have horrendous economies of scale and doing so would be a total waste of time.
2) The content of FAR is so vast that the 2nd time I take FAR may seem like a completely different experience from the first time I take it. There are so many topics they could test me on, that I could have completely different test topics each time. Therefore, I need to pretty much re-study everything the 2nd go-around. Hence, I should be allocating the same amount of time I spent on the first go-around (about 2 months).
So, guys, for those of you who failed FAR the first time but passed later:
1) What do you attribute as to the reason why you failed (underestimated the exam, half-assed it, studied really hard but just didn’t understand it, etc.)
2) How much time did you spend on the first go-around
3) How long of a period did you wait between failing your first run at FAR and the retake?
4) How much time did you allocate to re-studying FAR during the 2nd go-around?
