AnonymousInactivehey i just received my score report for FAR which i got a 72 on…
i was curious how ppl’s score reports compared to mine. i was weaker in sims, and specific transactions, stronger in framework and govt. and comparable in everything else…
my plan is to practice sims which i didnt do much of in my first attempt. as far as specific transactions go…thats pretty vague.

ziebaParticipantI'm eagerly awaiting my Dec 6th score. If you remember, we were both on the fence about how things would end up. I remember putting down many dumb answers to MCQ's. I guessed most bonds, since I really struggled with that, and for whatever reason I gave wrong answers to 2 NFP questions because I could have sworn NFP and present value had NOTHING to do with each other (I was wrong). My Becker material kept reiterating NRV and not PV.
My totally unsolicited advice – given how SIMS are unfamiliar to you – is to learn how to search through the codification and really use the advanced search function. I fished out answers for two SIMS right out of the codification. I mean for crying out loud, it was right there in the ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE section. It's a matter of light reading/interpretation to brush up, and then slowly filling in the blanks on your SIM referencing back as necessary. It doesn't get any better than that.
I did struggle with finding anything on IFRS in the codification in the last few remaining minutes, but I presume that was for obvious reasons.
Who knows I might be right there with you for the January retake. If I am, I will be sure to update this thread with my report.
AUD - 75*, 88 done 5/14! (*exp)
BEC - 74 , 77
REG - 65 , 76 (10 point combooo!!)
FAR - 69 , 75Dr: perseverance

ziebaParticipantI'm not sure doing Becker SIMS would have helped any, as nothing on the test seemed familiar. I did however use the codification to research the topic of every SIM to gleam answers this way, so that's something you will definitely be using. If you're using Becker and it's not the fully indexed “real deal” I think you can find the full text online (searchable).
If I only had more time to read through the derivative/hedging portion of the code…

AnonymousInactiveHi,
I'm going to caution that its hard to improve your score by “practicing sims”. In my opinion most people struggling with sims actually are struggling with either recalling the important underlying concepts or tying these concepts together in the manner necessary to work through the sim.
Flashcards/MCQ/Reading review text can help with the first of those two. For the second I recommend starting and maintaining a “concept map”, basically a drawing that maps out how each concept you come across during your review interrelates with other concepts.
Excluding two questions in regulation I didn't need to use the research tool for ANY of my task based simulations (research Q's aside obviously). So my tip is DO NOT depend on the codification for FAR or IRC for REG be a crutch for understanding key concepts. If you know the concepts when you walk in and then you should have plenty of time to complete the TBS.
