    Hey guys,

I’m having difficulties remaining focused as I’m studying for AUD. At this point I’m feeling anxious about my BEC score and the concerns of having to retake it. On top of that, it’s the middle of the summer so it’s hard enough to focus as it is. I’ve been having a lot of personal issues lately having to do with family, and since I’m living at home it has made focusing more difficult. I need advice about how to regain my concentration because I am going through the motions but not really feeling like I am absorbing as much as I need to because my mind is on so many other things. I am starting A4 today and have the exam scheduled for August 16th so I really need to get it together or I will bomb. Please share some advice about how to get your mind off of your life and onto the CPA.

    FAR 4/9/12- PASSED
    BEC 7/13/12- PASSED
    AUD 8/16/12- Ughhh 71, Rematch: 90!!!
    REG-12/6/12 PASSED

    USC MAcc- Fight on!

Thanks for all the great advice. When I say that I'm no longer in school I mean I've moved back home from my college town and realistically the libraries in my proximity are not viable study options. There's a community college about 30 minutes away but I don't know if it's worth the drive daily. I think it's not so much that I don't want to do this anymore but rather the fact that at school I was able to be really selfish about my studies and didn't really have to deal with anything in my family since I was literally on the opposite coast. Now that I'm home and things are mentally getting to me and I'm already on edge because of CPA stress,I end up drifting off and thinking about my problems instead of listening to Tim Gearty school me on Audit. I've definitely tried to implement more of a routine in my life to keep things structured but I can feel myself not focusing the way that I did before. I'm going through the motions but not all there. Hard to snap out of it.

    FAR 4/9/12- PASSED
    BEC 7/13/12- PASSED
    AUD 8/16/12- Ughhh 71, Rematch: 90!!!

@mgoloubenko, I totally feel ya. I am having problems on the home front, the type that eat at you all day long in your mind, force you to make major life decisions…that sort of thing. Honestly I'm trying to just put it all off until I pass the CPA, and I hate the feeling of putting my life on hold. It is very difficult to focus all my energy the way I should into the CPA by trying to shut the other stuff out. I had many nights feeling the way you describe – going through the motions but not feeling like I was really learning anything. All I can say is I still managed to pass. As long as you are still getting some good study time in I think you will be fine! You could try journaling, go for a drive, etc…anything to try and work the issue out of your mind a little…then tell you brain to shut up and study! (this is what I do)

    AUD 85 (2/12) Using Becker
    FAR 81 (5/12)
    BEC 79 (7/13)
    REG 85 (10/1)

Thistooshallpass, thank you for understanding. That's basically exactly the kind of stuff that I have going on too. Not a conducive study environment but I think you're right, I have to focus on this here and now and then just see how my cards fall. I hope everything works out for you!

I see from your profile your from NY. So hello from a fellow NYer. I'm out on LI. Anyways, what helped me alittle was i told my parents that i need to study and cant deal with all the stuff that normally goes on. They know when im studying so they try to keep it down. I would recommend getting a set of bose headphones. The big ones. The kind that block out sound. I would put those on and close the door to my room and I swear i couldn't even hear a knock on the door. They are definitely worth the investment if your parents are like mine and dont totally make it the environment that you need for studying. I also am slightly far away from any school so I know what it's like to only have the small libraries to study at. My library only has like three tables and i really dont want to be bothered seeing people i know there and talking and all that.

You just need to focus. Cut out the internet, turn off the cell phone, and tell everyone you are busy for the next X hours. When i am studying if i think of something i want to do or want to look at i write it down on a piece of paper. Then after i am done studying i go through my list and either check whatever i wanted to check, or do whatever i needed to do.

    R PASS
    A PASS
    B PASS
    F AUGUST
