    Hey guys,

I’m having difficulties remaining focused as I’m studying for AUD. At this point I’m feeling anxious about my BEC score and the concerns of having to retake it. On top of that, it’s the middle of the summer so it’s hard enough to focus as it is. I’ve been having a lot of personal issues lately having to do with family, and since I’m living at home it has made focusing more difficult. I need advice about how to regain my concentration because I am going through the motions but not really feeling like I am absorbing as much as I need to because my mind is on so many other things. I am starting A4 today and have the exam scheduled for August 16th so I really need to get it together or I will bomb. Please share some advice about how to get your mind off of your life and onto the CPA.

The biggest problem is I'm not at school anymore and the public libraries in my area are tiny and don't really have cubicles.

Studying for the CPA exam is nothing compared to what these people have to go through. I always get motivated after watching some videos.

Take Adderall. haha I'm just kidding. Take a day off to do something fun. Go shopping (if money is available) or hang out with friends. Simply do whatever makes you happy. After that you might be able to focus more. I feel your pain about living at home, its definitely much more stressful. I just graduated and had to move back home. It was easier to focus at school since the competitive factor motivated me, especially since it was a UC school. Good luck, Fight on!

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I'm just hitting that point where I'm starting to mentally burn out, and although I want to pass I'm not doing what I know it takes to do so. Top that off with all the other stuff going on and I would just rather sit on my butt and tan all day instead of drudge through this stuff day in and day out. CPA= life ruiner & kill joy

I had my best of friends with me all the time…I had Johnnie Walker and vodka after and before the exam and when i was despressed that i had to retake a exam and pay those fees again…i used to drown my self with my best buddy!!! Patron.

It worked, they helped me a lot….try these friends in moderation….. they don't bite back….

@mena je twa- best comment ever hahaha I would love nothing more than to swim in a pool of vodka right about now. Unfortunately, drinking makes it difficult to study the next day so I've really cut back from college 🙁

Even if you are not at school anymore, you can still go in the school library? maybe finding free parking is a problem if it's school library. but i think parking far and repeat what you've studied while walking would be helpful.

@mg I am right there with you! I know what it takes to pass a CPA section, I just don't want to do it. I have rescheduled my REG exam like 4 times already lol, it was originally mid July, and now it's August 31 … I'm a slacker, I know, but work has been hardcore this summer and I would rather pay the fees than have to retake it. Plus, I could always use some extra time!

So conclusion: reschedule for the end of August. Give yourself some extra time. Chill out. ;D

It's burnout. I kept telling myself that every day I drudges through it was a day closer to freedom! It's worth it when you're done!

I don't know about you, but sometimes a change of study location helps me “reset” my mind. Just make sure you have a good set of headphones if you go somewhere with people.

It's really difficult mentally to straight into studying a new section right after finishing a test. Physical activity helps alleviate some of the stress for me. I also have a hard time focusing at home because there's 1,000 different things I'd rather be doing at home and I usually end up doing one of those things instead of studying. I suggest going to Starbucks, and make sure you bring headphones. Also, maybe splitting your studying into 2 sessions. 3.5 hours early in the morning and 1.5 hours later on. I usually burn out around hour 3 and tend to not pay attention to the video lectures and read the whole MC.

Nothing anyone says will make you focus. You just gotta battle through it and try to get in some studying here and there. I am almost done yet i have like no focus. I am having a tough time sitting and studying, especially considering it's far im studying for.

I began studying right after i graduated last year. got two parts out of the way quick, unfortunately failed far by two points, then knocked out bec after busy season, now going for far. Imagine the feeling you have mentally. Now times it by like a million. That's how i feel. It sucks but you know what i want to be a cpa. I am giving up my second summer in a row to make it happen and I am fine with it because it will pay off in the future.

PS. last year when i was just recently graduated i would make a schedule for myself even if i didn't have anything to do all day. I would get up watch tv for a little, go to the gym, go for a run, eat, then start studying. You need to get into a routine and make your day around studying not make studying around your day.
